Phala Jackson Smith

A graveside service for
Phala Smith, 92, of
Beckville, TX was held at 3
p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19,
2013, at Martin Cemetery
near Beckville with Macky
Buchanan and James Ed-
wards officiating under the
direction of Jimerson-
Lipsey Funeral Home. The
family received friends from
6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the
funeral home. Smith passed
away on Sunday morning,
Nov. 17, 2013, in Carthage.
Phala Jackson Smith was
born on May 3, 1921, in
Beckville, TX to the late
Charlie Wesley and Emma
Lena Eldridge Jackson. She
attended Broome School
and later Beckville Schools
when all of the community
schools were consolidated.
At Beckville, she was cho-
sen as “Who’s Who” in U.S.
High Schools. Smith attend-
ed Stephen F. Austin State
University where she ma-
jored in history and earned
her undergraduate and
graduate degrees. She met
William Austin Smith while
visiting friends in Marshall,
TX and they were married
on Sept. 15, 1941 at the
Waskom Baptist Church
Parsonage. Mr. Smith pre-
ceded her in death on Jan.
17, 2005. In 1958, she began
her teaching career at
Beckville I.S.D. She retired
in 1982, after 23 years. She
was a member of the Order
of the Eastern Star. Smith’s
Christian faith was always
very important to her. In ad-
dition to her husband,
Smith was preceded in
death by her three brothers,
Clifton, Felton, and Alton
Jackson and her son-in-law,
Phillip Weaver.
She is survived by her
daughter, Alice Weaver of
Beckville; her grandson,
Kirk Weaver and wife, Re-
nae, of Beckville; two great-
grandsons, Clint Weaver
and wife, Casie, of Waco and
Ryan Weaver and wife,
Kelsey, of Beckville; and
four great-great-grandchil-
dren, Kellen, Reese, Jack-
son, and Tessa.
The family would like to
extend a heartfelt thank you
to the staff and nurses at
Marian Place Assisted Liv-
ing and East Texas Hospice
for the loving care given to
Smith.

Harry Cohee Dotson, Jr.
was born on November 15,
1931 in Kokomo, Indiana.
Harry served in the United
States Marines from 1948 -
1951 and fought in the Ko-
rean Conflict. He worked
throughout his life as a
wood and metal lather
both in the states and over-
seas. He attended First
Baptist Church in Gary,
Texas when his health al-
lowed. Harry is preceded
in death by his mother,
Bertha Allgood and father,
Arnold Raymond Cohee,
both of Indiana; and his

Henson was born on July

Tompkins. She passed
away on Sunday after-
noon, Nov. 10, 2013, in
Tyler, TX.
Darline graduated from
high school in Itasca, TX
and went on to earn a cer-
tificate in cosmetology.
She loved going on cruises
and crocheting. Darline
had lived for the past 14
years in Beckville moving
there from Benbrook, TX.
She was of the Baptist
faith. Darline was preced-
ed in death by one brother,
John B. Tompkins and one
sister, Becky Lee Tomp-
kins.
Henson is survived by
one brother, Charles E.
Tompkins, II of Gilmer;
one nephew, Daniel Tomp-
kins of Longview; one
niece, Stacy McKee of
Longview; special aunt,
Sherry Kiper of Carthage,
and step-father, George
Racicot of Beckville.

Judy passed away on the
morning of Nov. 16, 2013.
She was born on May 14,
1949, and was the daughter
of J.D. and Mildred Bosley
LaGrone.
Judy lived her life loving
her family. They, along
with many others, will
miss her deeply. She is pre-
ceded in death by her son,
Jeff Rowell; brother, Bihy
LaGrone; and her par-
ents.
Judy leaves behind to
cherish her memory, her
daughter, Jennifer
Schuler and husband
Gray; three beautiful
grandchildren, Britney
Rowell, Julia Beth Schuler
and Joseph Gray Schuler,
III; daughter-in-law, Jen-
nifer Moore; sister-in-law,
Barbara Caskey and hus-
band James; nieces and
nephew, Holly and Hunter
Caskey and Mandi Mad-
dox; special cousins, Hen-
ry Teekel and Pat Daniels;
and many others who will
miss their special
"MeMe".
Local survivors include
uncle, Jeff LaGrone, of
Carthage, and aunt, Allie
Dickerson, of Lafayette,
LA.
Honoring Judy as pall-
