tily to ox and as the return of summer brines tack
the long calm moonlight nights we shall rnbshis
cheerful presence and always interesting conver-
sation. Bit was a character o nicely proportion-
ed and so adorned with intelligence judgment add
observation that we fear that many a year will
pas ere its peculiar plice in our mind and heart
till be filled.
Dr. Peters was a native of Clarksville Tennes-
see; received his medical education in Philadelphia
where be graduted in 1S32 and sutneqnently prac-
ticed bis profession in C ourtland Ala. whence he
moved to Bonis County Texas in 1SJ7 and thence
to this Town in January IStG.
His Constitution had been impaired years
since by a loo rigid attention to medical ptactice
and living in unhealthy situations and he had look-
ed forward for some years to jur. such an attack
as finally carried htm off-

or Sua County in the 47ih year of his age.
Major Smith was a. native of Buncombe County
North Carolina from which place he removtd to
the "Western part of Tennessee. In 1S36 he immi-
grated to-Texas and settled upon Jce Creek
about SO miles from this waich wrs his home un-
til his decease. He left his family to attend ths
Court now in session and only two da ys serious
to his burial was in his seit a Jorar. galled
suddenly from 'araoeg us has one been wh
whatever may harebecn his errors all loo ked up-
on as possessing in a high degree the social and
manly virtues. He.was a man ot honor devoted
to his Country and hit friends. Perfectly aware
ofhisappioachio; dissolution he died with the
uircosi resignation. In conversing with some cf

but a few moments before be expired he remaik-
