GOP Primary Has Two Local Candidates
Contested Races Set
For Democratic Primary
Two Archer County Commissioner
positions will be determined during the
Democratic primary election set for
March 10.
The voters of realigned Precinct 1 will
decide between candidates Richard
Shelley, Ronny Cartwright, Glenn
Thorman, and Charles Ortega. Incum-
bent Evon Carter is retiring at the end of
her term December 31,1992. A run off
for the spot is likely.
Precinct 3 voters will choose between
incumbent commissioner Ben Buerger
and Melvin Brown. Voters in that pre-
cinct will also choose between incum-
bent Constable Tom Rich and Ed Rose.
The only other contested race will be
between Della Jo Lynch and Bettye
Tanner-Shelby for the Precinct 1 (Holli-
day) chair that is being vacated by in-
cumbent Elizabeth Gorman.
Other Democratic candidates include
Carl Enos for Sheriff; Teresa Oliver
Martin (incumbent) for Tax Assessor-
bent Archer County Sheriff P. L Pippin
is running unopposed as is County
Republican Chairman F. K. (Katy)
Singletary.
The Democratic primary will also find
incumbent District Attorney Jack
McGaughy opposed by Tim Cole. S tate
Collector; Jack Davis (incumbent) for Representative Charles Finnell is run
Constable of Precinct 1 (Archer City ning unopposed as is District Judge
area); Leroy Addison (incumbent) for Roger Towery and U. S. Representative
Constable of Precinct 2 (Holliday area); Bill Sarpalius.
Leroy Williams (incumbent) for Con- On the Republican side, the U. S. Rep-
stable of Precinct 4 (Windthorst-Scot- resentative post is being sought by Bob

HOWDY PARDNER! Snowmen, snowwomen, snow-
boys, and snowgirls dotted the yards and countryside of
Archer County Saturday and Sunday after six inches of
the fluffy, white powder fell Friday night and Saturday

4-H Horse Club To
Meet January 26
The 4-H Horse Club will be meet-
ing Sunday, January 26. All officers
need to arrive at 4 p.m. and all other
members at 5 p.m. The meeting will
be held at the Activity Building.
Playday courses, such as barrels, poles
and other events will be practiced. Do
Not bring horses.
Immunization Clinic
January 28
The Texas Department of Health
will conduct an Immunization Clinic
at 410 1/2 E. Chestnut on Tuesday,
January 28, 1992 from 9 to 11:30
a.m. in Archer City.
Immunizations against DPT, polio,
measles, mumps, rubella and HIB will
be offered. Please bring immunization
records with you to the clinic. A
parent or legal guardian must accom-
pany a minor.
Archer City Elementary was the
scene of the "Rockin’ N’ Readin’" RIF
Day Friday, Januaiy 17. Students were
treated to a special story read by "Big
Jim Russell" of KLUR and a musical
tribute to the benefits of being able to
read. Students were also able to pick
out a book free provided by the RIF
Program of Archer City Elementary.
Special musical numbers were pre-
sented by Jay Stewart, Dorene Par-
rack, Deana Cow;m, Kitty Williams,
Julie Womack, Becky Neel and a
group of Archer City Elementary
students.
Archer Chamber of Commerce Sets Banquet Date
The Archer Chamber of Commerce set
February 24 as the tentative date for its
annual banquet during its regular
monthy meeting at the Spur Hotel Tues-
day. Vice President Abby Abernathy
presided at the meeting and appointed
committees to handle the catering, en-
tertainment, and speaker for the ban-

quet.
Abernathy also appointed Kathryn
Carnes to chair the Nominating
Committee for the 1992 slate of officers.
The committee report will be presented
at the February 18 meeting.
The C of C set May 16 as the date for the
annual Mayfest celebration.
Commissioners Appoint
Grievance Committee
The Archer County Commissioners
appointed a grievance committee as
drawn from the Grand Jury Panels dur-
ing its regular meeting Janueary 13.
Members include Don Vanbebber,
Melvin Berend, Patricia G. Pechacek,
officials to remain on a salaried basis
and appointed County Judge Paul O.
Wylie to act in case of an emergency.
The Court split their vote on a motion
by D. W. Stone and second by Ben
Buerger to pay $250 for maintenance

meet Tuesday, January 28 at 6:30
p.m. at the Archer Service Center.

Musical Show And Political Rally Set For Holliday'
A musical show featuring the Coun-
try Cut Ups from Saint Jo will be
held at the Holliday Senior Citizen
Building on January 25.
The Country Cut Ups are sponsors
of the Saint Jo Opry, in its 5th year
of performance. The opry has booked
groups from Branson, Missouri as
well as area talent. The opry is held
each second Saturday night of the
month at the school auditorium in
Saint Jo.
There will be a Musical Show and
Political Rally at 7 p.m. introducing
Tim Cole, candidate for District Attor-
ney of 97th Judicial District, includ-
ing Montague, Archer and Clay coun-
ties.

refreshments will be available.
The event will be hosted by Sonny
and Dee Cole and friends of Tim Cole.
Everyone is invited to come enjoy the
music and fun.
