On Birthday
Thursday night, Dec. 6, Mrs.
George Kunze and Mrs. Wilfred
Ahr of LaCoste, entertained the
birthday club with a party at the
home of Mrs. Kunze. Supper was
served to the following:
Mesdames, John L. Zuercher,
John Lloyd Zuercher, Rudolph
Bippert, Herbert Adam, George
Zuercher and Miss Lena Geiger.
Games were played throughout
the evening and prizes awarded
winners. The special prizes were
won by Mrs. John Lloyd Zuer-
cher. The honoree received a
number of useful gifts.

San Antonio Hospital
By Mrs. Ida Jungman
- William R. Keller of LaCoste,
underwent a serious eye opera-
tion last week im a San Antonio
hospital. Last reports said he
was doing as well as could be
expected.
A. N. Mangold, who has been
a patient in Castroville for past
weeks, was able to go home
Saturday and is doing fairly well.
MAM William J. Engelbrecht
and sons, have moved into their
new home, which they recently
had built on. San Angelo Blvd.
in San Antonio.
MAM Milton Wurzbach, MAM
N. E. Mansfield and mother,
Mrs. Frances Wurzbach, all of
San Antonio, were out for open
house in the home of MAM Ferd-
nand Wurzbach in observance of
their golden wedding anniversary
Sunday, Dec. 16.
MAM Milton Neuman and sis-
ter, Mrs. C. G. Fredrich, of San
Antonio, were here Sunday visit-
ing MAM William F. Neuman.
Mrs. A. N. Mangold and Mrs.
C. R. Bauerlein called on Mrs. Ida
Jungman Wednesday.
Mrs. William R. Keller and
daughter, Mrs. Edgar Kempf,
were out for a short visit Satur-
day.

MAM Wesley Hutzler of here,
made a business trip to San An-
tonio Friday morning.

Marine Maj. Clyde J. Bader,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe A. Bader!
Castroville, recently was graduat-
ed from the naval atomic, biologi-
cal and chemical ABC) defense
course at the Army’s Chemical
Corps School, Fort McClellan,
Ala.
The five-week course trained
Major Bader to organize and ex-
ecute the defense of a military
installation again ABC attack.
Maj. Bader, whose wife, Betty,
lives at 410 Saratoga Dr., San An-
tonio, entered the Marine Corps
in October, 1942.
He is a 1039 graduate of St.
Louis High School in Castroville
and a former student at St.
Mary’s University in San Antonio.

St. John’s -
Society Ends
Activities *
A Christmas Party climax-
ing this year’s activities of St.
John’s Altar Society was held fol-
lowing the meeting on Monday,
Dec. 17, in the parish hall. De-
corations consisted of a gayly de-
corated tree with poinsettras plac-
ed on the serving table and at
other vantage points.
Mrs. Henry Flory, out-going
president, presided, and Rev.
Harold Ehlinger led the opening
and closing prayers and pointed
out the important role the Altar
Society plays in each parish, com-
plimenting the members on a job
well done.
Mrs. Michael Bali was elected
president for the ensuing term;
Mrs. Joe Meyer, vice-president;
an^ Mrs. O. J. Bomba, secretary-
treasurer.
Three baskets of food and cloth-
ing are being prepared for the
“empty stocking” project spon-
sored by the BAPW. Members
brought items for these baskets.
There was a gift exchange,
as well as several entrance prizes
being awarded.
At the conclusion, refreshments
of cookies and coffee were served
by hostesses, Mesdames W. A.
Bendele, Paul Bendele, O. J.
Bomba, Marie Richter, Oscar
Bendele, Michael Bali, G. P.
Chapman, Robert Zerr, W. J.
Brucks, Elmer Bader and Oscar
Batot. Rev. Brian Crookes,. Mrs.,
Ruby Speece, Mrs. Lester!

were guests.
