Most of the foreign exchange
students stay the entire school
year. Strong friendships are made
and sometimes romances are
created that make it tough to
leave. That is why many times
you will find some of them return
to visit, such as last year's Archer
City exchange student, Tim Bode.
He has already made the trip back
to Archer City with his father
Dieter from Germany during
Tim's school fall break this week.
The foreign exchange program
seems to be a positive experience
for everyone involved.
PAINT OUT WINNERS
Archer City Mayor David Levy, center, welcomed the Southwestern Watercolor
Society to Archer City last weekend. He is shown here with the two winners of the
“Paint Out” they held in our city. On the left is Gaylord O’Con, with his 3rd place
winning painting of St. Mary’s Church in Windthorst. On the right is Nel Byrd, who
won 1st and 2nd place, and also painted the “Mayor’s Choice.”

Holliday ISD
Superintendent
Clark Boyd is
synonymous:
a positive
experience for
all.
Beaver said,
"The foreign
exchange
students bring
us a cultural
taste we don't
get otherwise. We learn that
teenagers are teenagers no matter
what part of the world they are
from. We are always thrilled to
have them. They are a great asset
to our school. We have had no
negative experience that I can
recall. They contribute to
that having
them as
students is the
easy part.
"We always
welcome them
and they
always seem to
fit in well with
our other
students,"
Beaver said.
Boyd
reiterated
much of
Beaver's
feelings. "The
foreign
exchange
program in
Holliday has
always been a positive
experience so far. We have been
fortunate. They always seem to
fit in well with the other students.
We usually have 1-3 students a
year, this year just one. The key
is the host parents who have to
really want to take this challenge
on. The foreign exchange
students always seem to enjoy
themselves and participate in

Makenzie and Mitch Lundy
recently competed at the West
Texas Fair and Rodeo in Abilene,
Tx. Each competed in the Junior
Wether Goat division.
Mitch had a 6th place finish in
the first lightweight class of the
day.
Makenzie had a first place
finish in both classes number 2
and 3 respectfully. This qualified
her for the Grand Champion
Drive. Her goat that placed first
in the third class was chosen as
Grand Champion Wether at the
fair. There were over two
hundred goats entered in the fair.
Makenzie also competed in the
Senior Showmanship and was
selected as one of the top
showpersons at the fair in that
division.

Society held a “Paint Out” here

According to Beaver, the
burden is on the host family to
transport them to and from
events and to keep them happy
while they are
here. He stated
Generally speaking, most Ar-
cher Citians probably wouldn’t
call their home town an “art
town.” A cowboy town, yes. An
oil field town, of course. But art?
Now, Larry’s people and some
others would certainly call this
a “book town.” And there are
those fond of the Royal Theater
who would call this a drama
