The theory is to gather heat
from the sun during the day
and use it to warm a structure
at night or store it for warm-
ing during cold spells.
The plan offers particular
advantages to ranchers whose
property usually is far remov-
ed from conventional heat
sources. Large barns and
stock sheds could be heated
economically and safely.
The system is based on the
simple premise that the sun

DOOMED AS DEAF
MUTE, HE HEARS
AND TALKS
Salt Lake City.—W hen
Bernard Davidson was two
months old he fell and fractur-
ed his ear drums.
Doctors said he would never
hear again, probably could not
talk. and almost certainly
would lead an abnormal life.
Davidson is now 30 and has
proven the doctors WTong on
all counts.
He hears so well that he has
a large collection of Dixieland
jazz music that “comes
through good” by way oi a
bearing aid.
He’s learned to talk—he
speaks slowly but distinctly—
well enough to take on a bus-
iness of his own, repairing
false teeth.
As to normal life, Davidson
is happily married. His wife,
whom he met in school,, has
been deaf from birth. They
converse fluently in sign lan-
guage. Their daughter. Sherry,
two, has normal hearmg and
speech.
Marring woodwork uninten-
tionally as you do jobs around
home can cause a lot of extra
work. Better Homes A Gar-
dens magazine has this tip for
close-quarter nailing—as, for
example against a baseboard
'or in a cupboard corner. Wind
a heavy rubber band or inner-
tube loop around the head of
your hammer. Then you can
hammer near a wall, or a fin-
ished board, and the rubber
band will keep from scratch-
ing or denting.
