Assault under
investigation
An alleged assault on a 13-year-
old girl by four youths is being in-
vestigated by the Hondo Police
Department
According to reports, the assault
occurred about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday,
March 12, as the girl walked home
from school. She was reportedly
held and a Satanic emblem tatooed
on her forearm.
The police department would re-
lease no additional information.
San Antonio says,

The City of San Antonio, Down-

politan Transit Systems, and Miller
Lite are hosting a festival Saturday,
Mar. 16, to celebrate the end of ma-
jor downtown construction.
Continuous entertainment, food

David Fohn has announced his
candidacy for the Hondo Independ-
ent School Board Trustee District 5
position.
"I care about good education and
think something needs to be done
to improve the education of our
young people," said Fohn in Mak-
ing his anouncement "I intend to
be fair and just"
A lifelong resident of Hondo'and
1977 graduate of Hondo High
School, Fohn is currently engaged
in farming. He is a 1981 graduate
of Southwest Texas State Univer-
sity and holds a BS degree in agri-
culture business.
Fohn’s wife, Cindy, teaches math
at Hondo High School. They have
two daughters, Katy and Sara.
Cemetery work set
Yancey Cemetery Association is
planning a work day at the Yancey
Cemetery on March 23rd, weather
permitting, 9 a.m. till.
The community and members are
invited to help. Please bring shov-
els, hoes and a sack lunch.

Tax help
available
Free income tax help is available
again this year for residents of the
Hondo/D’Hanis area. This program
is designed to help the elderly,
handicapped and low income tax-
payers with their tax returns. This
is an AARP/Tax Aide program and
is starting its 23rd year.
The volunteer counselors are
trained by the Internal Revenue
Service. They will operate a desk at
the Hondo Public Library, High-
way 90 and Avenue K, each
Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
thru April 10, On April 10 the
counselors will be available all day
until 7 p.m. The deadline for filing
your return is April 15th so don’t
delay!
Persons using this free service
are asked to bring last year's tax re-
turn and all the current year's mate-
rials including W-2's and 1099’s.
MCAH meets
Thursday ■
Medina County Association for
the Handicapped Board of Direc-
tors will meet Thursday, March 14,
at 1 p.m. according to schedule and
is always open to members.
The general membership meeting
will be held on a separate day, in
the evening, for those who find it
difficult to attend in the afternoons.

Wednesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. at
Hondo City Hall, 17th Street and
Ave. M.

and Yvette Hinojosa, will answer
questions on the variety of services
available for adults and children
with special needs. Ynclan will
speak about MHMR services and
Hinojosa will address intervention

First Baptist Church of Castrov-
ille will host special worship serv-
ices Sunday through Wendesday,
March 17-20, during a community-
wide Christian revival. Everyone,
regardless of religious preference
or denomination is invited to at-
tend.
. "You don't have to be Baptist to
come and enjoy," said Rev. Statt
Riddlebarger, pastor of First Bap-
tist Church. "The revival we are
talking about is for everyone, re-
gardless of personal religious con-
victions or denominational ties."
Two services will be held daily —
a bible study luncheon at noon and
a worship service at 7 each eve-
ning.
Featured speaker during each
service will be dynamic missionary
and preacher Rev. Miles McKee,
who pastors a church in Wexford,
Ireland. First Baptist Church's min-
ister of music, Bro. Cliff Harden,
will lead a choir during the music
portion of worship services With
enthusiastic songs and instrumen-
tals.
Those in the immediate Castrov-
ille area in need of transportation to
and from the revival meetings, can

provide free bus pickup.

Sigma Tau discusses Easter plans
Sigma Tau Sorority held their
monthly meeting in the home of
Carol Long, with Em Cowan serv-
ing as co-hostess.
Young Woman of The Year can-
didates were introduced to the So-
rority members.
Plans were made for a Easter
Bake Sale and Raffle. The Bake
Sale will be at Wal Mart on March
23 from 9:00 to 5:00 and on March
30, from 9:00 to 3:00. Tickets for
the raffle will be sold both days for
Easter craft items made by some of
the talented Sorority members. The
proceeds from the sale and raffle
will be awarded at the Young
Woman of The Year scholarship
program scheduled for April 21.

Easter bonnet contest winners named
Market Trail Days in Hondo was
a very festive occasion Saturday.
The 2nd Annual Easter Bonnet
contest, sponsored by local State
Farm Agent James L. Tomey, gen-
erated lots of enthusiasum and re-
sulted in a wide variety of colorful
and creative hats, caps and bonnets.
The winners were:*
Ages 0 - 2 yrs old-- Heather
Lutz (prettiest); Michael Brucker
(outrageous); Margaret Schmidt
(creative); Steven DeLeon (hunt-
ing); Katherine Aynesworth
(judges' favorite); and Meagan Zerr
(runner-up)
Ages 3 - 7 yrs old; Miss Cora
Beth Schmidt (prettiest); Mandy
Kempf (outrageous); Stella Garza
(creative); Joshua Rodriguez (hunt-
ing); Kristina Dixon (ranching) and
Samuel Moore (farming).
Ages 7 - 12 yrs old: Tiffany
Heilig (prettiest); Audrey Schlortt
(outrageous); Jacob Reinartz (crea-
tive); Derek Sapp (hunting) Laci
Boubel (farming) and Todd Heilig
(ranching).

Nieves Garza (creative); Jessica
Bybee (hunting); Brenda Heilig
(farming) and Ada Misner (ranch-
ing).
The judges for this years' contest
were: Diane Opperman, Elizabeth
Moreno, Chris Avila, Donna Crad-
dock, and Priscilla Reynolds. They
all said the competition was fierce
and it was difficult to decide the
winners, all judges agreed that
Hondo has many talented, creative
and imaginative citizens who know
how to decorate their hats.
