Governments (AACOG) announces
a variety of recreational, educa-
tional and shopping activities for
Market Trail Day to be celebrated
Saturday, June 8, throughout par-
ticipating communities in Bexar,
Atascosa, Medina and Frio Coun-
ties in an effort to stimulate tourism
and economic development within
the region south and west of San
Antonio.
Market Trail Day is a special
event designated for the secood
Saturday of each month within the
communities found west of San
Antonio on Highway 90 to D'Hanis
and south along U.S. 81 to Dilley.

Obituary
THOMAS R. HOLLOWAY
Graveside services for Thomas
Robert "Tom" Holloway of Hondo
will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday,
June 6 (today) at Oakwood Ceme-
tery. Guinn-Horger Funeral Home
is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Holloway, 75, passed away
at his home June 4.
A complete obituary will be pub-
lished next week.
MEMORIAL DAY SERVICES... honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice were held May 27 at
Memorial Park. Citizens, city officials, and officers and members of local veterans organizations gathered
to join in the service remembering those who have died.

Hal Jones American Legion Post
128 will furnish a float to be used
in the Freedom Celebration parade.
Any and all vets whether they be
members or not, are urged to come
out and ride or walk, if they wish.
__"We will have members walking
and carrying the colors, also," said
a spokesman for the group. "Come
out and let everyone know that our
veterans care and appreciate all
that has been done for diem.

Pineda recalls military career
Luis M. Pineda, U.S. Army com-
mand Sergeant Major (Retired),
now lives near Hondo at
Creekwood, on the Dunlay hill.
During his military career he made
750 parachute jumps, and was in
the airborne infantry for 18 years,
with five trips overseas.
He was living in Crystal City
when he joined the army in 1949.
Twice he served with the 2nd In-
fantry division in Korea, 1950-51,
and again in 1969-70. He was in
Germany with the 11th Airborne
division during 1954-58, and again
in 1963-66 with the 10th Special
Forces Group and the 509th Air-
borne Infantry. He was with the
101st Airborne division in Viet
Nam in 1968-69, where he served
as first sergeant, Company C, in the
502nd Regiment of the First Bri-
gade. Three times he was assigned
to the 82nd Airborne Division at
Fort Bragg, N.C.
Among his awards are the Silver
Star, Bronze Star with V device,
Meritorious Service, 3rd award,
Republic of Viet Nam Cross of
Gallantry, and many others.
He retired in August of 1974 at
Fort Sam Houston, and is now an
ordained minister in the Bible Faith
Christian Chruch. He says his days
are filled now with missionary
work. He lost his wife in February,
but has two brothers living in
Uvalde, three daughters and a son
living in San Antonio.

Flag retirement postponed
Post 128 has decided to postpone
retirement (burning) of flags to a
date to be decided at a later time.
"We will still ask those who have
old flags in need of retirment ot
continue to bring them to the
Hondo Area Chamber of Com-
merce office where they will be
picked up," said the spokesman.
"Or you may call Hubert Hermes,
426-2348, or George Schmidt, 426-
2302, and they will be picked up."
Graff graduates
from Angelo State
Robert Charles Graff, of Hondo,
received a Bachelor of Science de-
gree from Angelo State University
in Agriculture Bus. on May 10,
1991.
He was named to the Dean's List
for the spring 1991 semester.
Robert is the son of Fred and Di-
ania Graff and grandson of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles C. Tondre and Mrs.
R. J. Graff.
Small business
seminar planned
The Small Business Develop-
ment Center at The University of
Texas at San Antonio will host a
seminar "Financial Safari, Learn to
Capture Cash."
The programs will be held June
13 "Explore Financial Statements
and Prepare for Financial Preda-
tors" and June 20 "Tracking and
Capturing Cash and How to In-
crease Sales and Reduce Costs."
The series costs $45 or $25 per
seminar and is open to the public.
It will be held at Kelly Field Na-
tional Bam:, Leon Valley Room,
6100 Bandera Road, beginning at 6
p.m. and lasting until 9 p.m.
Bybee honored for
academic achievement
Jessica Lynn Bybee, a student at
Stevenson Middle School in San
Antonio, will be honored for her
academic achievement at a state-
wide ceremony on June 10,1991 at
Trinity University. The recognition
ceremony is sponsored by the Duke
University Talent Identification
Program (TIP) to salute the sev-
enth-graders from Texas who
qualified in TTFs eleventh annual
Talent Search. All students invited
to the ceremony have earned scores
on the Scholastic Aptitude Test
(SAT) or the American College
Testing Assessment (ACT) compa-
rable to the average scores of col-
lege-bound high school seniors.
The students will receive certifi-
cates of distinction at the cere-
mony. The highest scorers will also
receive summer program scholar-
ships and bodes.
Her parents are Mr. and Mrs.
Larry L. Bybee of Helotes, grand-
parents are Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Bybee of Hondo and Mrs. Vernon
Abadie of Baton Rouge.
