1987-88 budget year.
Along Front Street, volunteers
from local business will be asked to
devise a plan for parking and land-
scaping along the downtown area
and railroad loading dock area.
The City in this category will be
expected to contact the railroad to
find out any restrictions on parking,
obtain permission to landscape
between the tracks and the new
parking area, lease the railroad
loading dock for the farmers market
and another acceptable activities,
and lease the parking area around
the loading dock for landscaping and
additional employee parking.
In Section 3, "Residential Area
Improvement," the phrase "clean
up" comes in again.
City responsiblities will include
a) Publicizing clean-up projects
through newspaper and other media
coverage; b) Contacting property
owners not complying with City
ordinances (junked cars, etc.), and
following due process of law to
prosecute violations; c) Main-
taining a list of persons needing
assistance from the Citizens for
Public Service Committee for help
in cleaning up; d) Making a City
truck available on Friday afternoons
to qualified citizens (those who
have no vechicles for hauling trash)
to load trash over the' weekends; and
e) Maintaining a list at City Hall of
citizens needing this special trash
pickup service.
Other projects listed in the Hondo
Pride Project report include the
Sunset Limited Park, and a plan for
closing and landscaping 16th Street
between the County Courthouse
and the City Hall block.

Airbase improvement
A two-phase plan for short-term
and long-term cleanup and
improvement at the Hondo airbase
was also presented to the Council.
As outlined on a schematic map,
Phase I would
1) Erect an entryway sign, with
idenifications of businesses, in-
dustries and facilities already located
there;
2) Landscape the airbase entrance;
and
3) Mow and maintain areas
adjacent to the entrance.
The City would also consider the
possibility of modifying leases to
require airbase tenants to maintain
their respective areas; re-locating
the street sweeper dump and other
stored building materials; remove
old concrete building foundations to
facilitate mowers and regular
upkeep; and work with Universal
Rundle on a plan to clear away
brushy areas for future upkeep, and
assist in removal of the fence from
the abandoned ball field.
Under Phase II, long-term
projects would include:
a) Plans developed by committee
and approved by the Council for
demolishing condemned and derelict
buildings;
b) Plans to relocate recreational
facilities;
and
c) Plans to upgrade the
appearance of existing building,
including painting and repairs on a
regular basis.
