Requests from the Hondo Golf
Association for more financial
assistance have been granted by the
City of Hondo.
Meeting in special session
Tuesday night, City Council
members voted to provide several
items to help out the non-profit
organization. The Golf Association
has for a number of years been in
charge of running the City-owned,
nine-hole municipal golf course
located at Hondo's airbase.
"They've been wanting more help
for a long time," said Mayor A.D.
Patterson.
Representing the Golf
Association in speaking before the
Council Tuesday night were Bemie
Yanite, Ralph Tindall and Jack
Gruber.
In the category of utilities, the
City will provide electric power to
the golf course facility at cost, a
concession which will save the
Golf Association several hundred
dollars each month.
Council members also agreed to
help out with maintenance, by
spending about $7,000 for a new
greens mower.
A third major item, the golf
course's automatic sprinkler system
that the City financed several years
ago. will no longer cost the Golf
Association any money after its
next scheduled payment.
Further assistance promised by
the City, and to be taken care of at
its convenience, will include such
work as repairing can paths and
areas around tee boxes, hauling in
gravel for leveling, additional sand
for traps, tree trimming and
providing a City employee who
will work on maintenance part-time
at the golf course.
Owl Band
off to region
after all !!!
At press time Wednesday Hondo
High School Principal Charles
Carlson announced that the Crystal
City band had canceled, giving
Hondo the opportunity to represent
District 11, along with Pearsall, in
Alice.
Hondo is scheduled to march at
3:30 p.m.
Hondo Owl Band will march in
Regional competition in Alice on
Saturday, Nov. 1.
The Owl Band had received a
Division 1 rating and was chosen
first alternate at District marching
competition in Hondo Oct. 11, but
Pearsall and Crystal City bands
were selected to advance.

Lots of rain this month;
October sets a record
October has already established
itself in Hondo as the wettest
month of 1986 so far. Now it's
gone and become the rainiest
October ever - that is, at least in
recorded history.
Gentle rains, spawned from a
hurricane off the Pacific coast of
Mexico, accounted for 1.49 inches
on a cool and cloudy Tuesday thii
week Add that to 8.40 inches
already received this month and
you've got an October with 9.89
inches through the 21st, plus
whatever rain fell on Wednesday,
and then there’s still more than a
week to go until November.
According to checks of available
records, it's a record.
The Hondo Radar Station does
not keep old local rainfall figures,
but meteorological technician
Adrian Fredriksson says the all-time

erratic path westward. There were
no such things then as aerial maps,
so the railroad was his guide. A

The journey was not by any

uneven series of short hops,

Flyover at Hondo
Rodgers made more stops in
Texas (23) than in any other state.
Major cities visited included Fort
Worth. Dallas, Waco, Austin. San
Antonio and El Paso. In Waco, he
buzzed around the 22-story
American Amicable building, then
the tallest skyscraper west of the
Mississippi. In Austin, he was
mobbed by 3.000 people, ate lunch
at the Dnskill Hotel, circled the
Capitol twice on depature and then
crashed in a cane field at Kvle.
