Chase ends in crash
at Hondo Creek bridge
A high-speed chase on High-
way 90 resulted in a collision
near the Hondo Creek bridge
Monday afternoon.
The vehicle in question, driven
by Roberto Perez, 28, was ordered
to stop by Castroville Police in the
1600 block of Highway 90 West
because of expired registration
and suspicious activity. Officer
Jeff Ortiz attempted to make the
trafffic stop at 3:07 p.m.
The red 2001 Hyundai did not
stop, instead speeding away at
rates of over 100 miles per hour.
A Department of Public
Safety trooper attempted to
spike the tires at the Hondo
Creek bridge. The driver was
able to swerve, missing the
spikes, but lost control, crossing
the median into eastbound
trafffic. The Hyundai struck an
eastbound Lincoln before crash-
ing into a fence next to the old
night club, The Other Place.
The suspect fled on foot and
was tracked down by a multi-
agency search. A check of the
Hyundai found it to be stolen out
of Bexar County.
Perez was charged with
Unathorized Use of a Motor Ve-
hicle and Evading Arrest with a
Vehicle.
The occupants of the Lincoln
were treated for minor injuries
and released.

was Tuesday night.
Residents in many parts of
Hondo heard the loud boom
around 10:15 p.m., but its source,
according to the Hondo Police
