their letters to Santa. In the an-
nual Christmas Greetings issue,
the Anvil Herald will publish let-
ters to Santa that are received in
our office by Thursday, Dec. 11.

pickup set Wednesday
In order for South Texas Refuse
employees to enjoy Thanksgiving
Day, Wednesday’s and Thurs-
day’s trash receptacles should be
put out for pickup on Wednesday
(Nov. 26). Both residential routes
will be run. Commercial routes
will be as normally scheduled.
Personnel to practice
for bioterrorism readiness
All Medina County law en-
forcement and emergency ser-
vices will participate in a
bioterrorism readiness exercise
some time Wednesday (Nov. 26).

Marijuana bust
DPS Trooper Rick Buckaloo talks with narcotics officials about a large amount of marijuana he
found after stopping a tractor trailer rig for a traffic violation on Hwy. 90, about two miles east of
Hondo Thursday morning. When the officer discovered that paperwork did not correspond, he
asked for consent to serarch the vehicle After inspecting the trailer and finding four duffle bags
filled with 343 pounds of marijuana stashed under carpet and plastic sheets, he arrested the
driver. Estimated street value is $467,000. (See related photo on page 2.)

A SPECIAL THANKSGIVING... Army Military Policeman Angel Escamilla, daughter of Henry
and Irene Escamilla, visited with children at SAT Learning Center and at Meyer Elementary
while home from Iraq on R&R. She visited the classes of her cousins, Zachary DeLeon (hold-
ing flag) and Jorge Romo, and Kindergartener Megan DeLeon, and answered the children's
questions about her job in the Army and about her uniform and equipment. On Tuesday after
Thanksgiving Angel will return to Iraq where she will be stationed until March. She also had a
message for area residents: "Please tell everyone 'thank you' for their prayers and support."

The Edwards Aquifer Author-
ity Board of Directors has ap-
pointed a 29-member water qual-
ity task force made up of stake-
holders throughout the region. At
least five of the members are resi-
dents of Medina County.
The goal of the task force is to
provide recommendations to the
board on the Authority’s appro-
priate role in water quality pro-
tection regulations.
Stephen Long and Bob Heyen,
both of Hondo, have been ap
pointed to serve as individual
citizens.
Greg Rothe, representing San
Antonio River Authority, and
Phillip Wright of the Natural Re
source Conservation Service,
both serve as non-voting re-
sources.
Medina County had not yet
appointed its representative.
The Edwards Aquifer Author-
ity is a regulatory agency
charged with preserving and pro-
tecting the Edwards Aquifer in
an eight-county region including
all of Uvalde, Medina and^
counties, plus portic
Atascosa, Caldwell, Guad
Comal and Hays counties.
