St. John's Catholic Church
has a new priest who can tell
you eye-to-eye he's been in
jail seven years.
He can also tell you he was
almost done in by the an-
gles of South America.
He would be telling you
the truth on both counts.
Father Harry Martin is
the new head of the parish
here and, in being that, is
holding down the first ordi-
nary assignment of his
career
Father Martin comes to
Hondo from San Antonio
where for the past seven
years he has served as the
priest at the Bexar County
Jail. Prior to that he served
in the jungles of South
America.
When he started a Catho-
lic high school in an aban-
doned poolroom high on a
primitive mountain in Belize,
formerly British Honduras,
he was not a priest But he
made the decision to become

Building Committee of the

At the March meeting of
the Medina County Child
Care Board the need for
some sort of emergency
shelter for children was dis-
cussed. At the present time
there are few immediate
places for children to go
when their parent (s) are
temporarily unable to care
for them. Ken Hahn repor
ted that there are instances
when a parent is incarcera
ted and there is an immedi-
ate need for someone to care
for his-her child. In many
cases, shelter may tie needed
for only one night until other
resources or relatives can be
contacted.
A call is being made at this
time for couples or families
who are willing to occasion
ally care for children on a
temporary, emergency ba-
sis. Anyone who would like
more information on this
should contact Frank Per-
kinds, Juvenile Probation
Officer, Hondo Police De-
partment, or Bert Clayton.
Chairman of the Medina

Chamber
A thumbs-down vote to an
event promoted by Success
Thoughts. Inc. was given
Monday by the Hondo Cham-
ber of Commerce board of
directors
Directors had sponsored
the calendar on an annual
basis last year, but the
promoters came in with a
two-a-year idea and direc-
tors felt this “was biking too
much money out of town".
The directors also said
that those merchants who
might have been approached
already by the salesperson
for the company should
know that prior to Monday
of this week the Chamber
had not given approval to
the ads being sold with
Chamber sanction, no mat
ter w hat they had been told
County Child Care Board.
This is a county-wide need
and all persons interested
are urged to call for more
details. »
It was also noted at the
meeting that Big Brothers
and Big Sisters are needed
to provide friendship and
activities for youngsters in
the community. Anyone in-
terested in this program
should contact the Depart-
ment of Human Resources
for more information

that good players balance
out inexperienced players
Each person hits his ball
from the spot where the best

landed ten feet off the tee
