The business meeting
began at 1 p.m. with Rep.
Jim Nugent of Kerrville
bringing greetings. The
speaker for the afternoon
session was Mrs. 'Nancy
Rutledge, Southwest
Texas Junior College,
Uvalde. She gave a most
infprmative talk on the
role of women.
According to Mrs.
Rutledge, women are ex-
pected to be much more
than homemakers and
mothers. Many women
today have three full-time
careersx homemaker,
mother, and a career out-
side the home.
At 6:30, the Young
Homemakers joined the
Young Farmers for the
annual awards banquet.
Greetings were presented
by Mamv Cooper, Mayor
of , . Kerrville. Guest
speaker was Dr. ’Ivan
Fitzwater, Superintendent
of -Schools, Northeast
ISD.
Realize the most out of
your life,” urged Dr. Fitz-
water, whose address was
generously sprinkled with
humor. He left us with
this question,” For
Heaven's sake, what are
you doing on Earth?”

TI E AMAZING
FACTS ABOUT A
NATURAL ENERGY
All-GAS HOME
It may surprise you, but gas appl iances use less energy
than electric appliances.
Because electricity is converted energy, natural gas
or some other fuel must be consumed in the process of
generation. And a considerable amount of the natural
energy from these fuels is lost in the conversion process.
Using the same amount of primary energy, a gas range
cook* alrdosUtwice as much food as an electric range. A
gas water heater heats 2.4 gallons of water to one gallon
heated electrically. A gas dryer driest loads of clothes
for every load dried electrically. And gas can heat 2 Vi
homes for every home heated electrically. B
- Those are pretty good reasons to use gas instead of
electricity.
Amazing, in fact,
iou save gas when you use gas directly

Chances are they had never been entered on your list 0f
friends. However, this week \Sept. 23-26] they were
among the 37 Quarter-Ton sailboats competing in what
was classified as a ‘‘2()0-mile giant-killing test for world
championships."
Contestants came from “the four comers of the earth,”
according to the news story - V Magellan's earlier proof
of its rotundity to the contrary notwithstanding
Eleven overseas countries entered the competition.
Trophies were to be awarded on Sept. 26. You'll be-
reading all about it in the dailies.

The American Heritage Merit Hodge was announced

I wonder how many Hondo Scouts have been uvrkmg
toward that meritorious merit bailg.
Among my bulging files, I found one with clippings

We had to limit some of the columns to “Suitcase

space by reporting that Mrs X |u ho really lived just

afternoon just catching up uith their chatting
Our neighboring <ommunitie< seemed to like to read ad
about “u hat uas going on” but I really can't remember
that any spicy 'going-, (.n”'<••• cry found printing space
Another column that seemed popular was ”OUR
