A tractor begins to fill in the large hole that was made on 30th Street, last Thursday, because of
a waterline break. 30th Street was closed from Ave. K to Ave. 0. for several hours.

This is the large hole partially filled in after repairing the old
cast iron pipe that burst. Water ran down 30th Street and even
down Ave. E last Thursday.
To clarify
We would like to clarify a
couple things in the article,
Winkler to travel to Russia
with Global Aid Network
from 1-11.
The acronym for Global
Aid Network is GAiN.
Also, it is the second time
for GAiN to enter the region
of Kazakhstan. But, only the
first time for Winkler.
Blood donors urgently needed
Levels Critically Low
South Texas Blood & Tissue
Center (STBTQ'Ts urgently re-
questing all eligible blood do-
nors to give blood during this
holiday week that begins with
Martin Luther King’s birthday.
All blood types are needed as
the current community blood
inventory has reached criti-
cally low levels. In order to
meet the needs of patients in
area hospitals, 500 units of
blood must be collected daily.
However, since the New Year,
far less blood units have been
collected, thereby jeopardiz-
ing the health needs of our
South Texas communities.
Inclement weather often
causes donors to postpone
their donation while the need
for blood remains undimin- 1
ished. Thus, we urge everyone
who Is eligible to donate to
respond to this community
need. In an emergency, pa-
tients can’t wait for a blood
transfusion. “You can’t predict
a crisis, but you can help to
avoid one," states Carmen
Davila, Director of Commu-
nity Relations.
Every donor will receive a
Spurs shirt (while supplies
last) and as the weather turns
chilly this week, coffee and
donuts will be provided to
warm those individuals who
come to our fixed sites to help
bolster the blood supply.
Please visit our website for
a mobile blood drive near you
www.southtexasblood.org or
call 210-731-5555 for more
information.
Anyone 17 years of age
weighing at least 110 pounds
and in good general health
may donate blood. Donors
must present photo identifi-
cation. Donors should eat a
light meal before their dona-
tion, and drink plenty of fluids,
such as water and fruit juice,
before and after donating.
