Murphy Memorial Library to receive gift of children's books
LIVINGSTON - Murphy Memo-
rial Library was one of five rural
Texas libraries selected by Governor
and Mrs. George W. Bush to re-
ceive donations of children's books
through the Brownstone Book Fund
of New York.
Librarians from each of the se-
lected libraries received a list of ap-
proximately 300 preschool through
third grade books from which they
could choose approximately 100.
Each gift is valued at about $1,700.
The list consisted of high-quality
- books, picture books, fiction and
non-fiction, said Priscilla Emrich,
librarian at Murphy Memorial. "We

lowed to order 10 more of our own
choosing," she said.
She sent the order last week and
expects the books to arrive at the
library within the next few weeks.
"We were thrilled," Emrich said
of being selected for the donation.
"We ordered a combination of recent
tides, as well as some classic titles
that needed to be replaced. It has
proven to be a really great gift for
us and for the whole community."

"The public library of my youth
gave me an addiction to books that
has enriched by life," said Diane
Brownstone, director of the founda-

pleasure to many other young peo-

Emrich said the books conic with
plaques inside noting the donation

played on the children's book
shelves for the first few weeks after
their arrival before being interfiled

WinterFix puts $100 Cash
in Your Pocket
Most of us, have had
this experience
Winter is over, it’s springtime
and the grass has gotten too tall
to put off mowing anymore. We
finally get the willpower to climb
on our tractor or lawn mower,
ready to do this chore, only to
turn the key and nothing hap-
pens. It won’t start!
We spend an hour or two tink-
ering with it, and, if we finally
get it started we have turned a 1
to 2 hour chore into a half-day
job. And that’s if we ever get it
started. I can think of a lot of
things I would rather be doing
than trying to get my tractor or
lawn mower started.
Be prepared, save time
and money.
One way we can guard against
this happening, is to service our
tractor or lawn mower at the end
of each season. Preventative
maintenance is the key to less
troubles and down time the fol-
lowing season. If we are not in-
clined to do this maintenance our-
selves, or don't have time, trac-
tor dealers, like Peters Tractor and
Equipment Company in Living-
ston, can take care of it for us.
And we can take advantage of
wintertime discounts in the pro-
cess.
How about that $100?
Peters tractor and Equipment
Co. currently has a service pro-
gram called WinterFix. They will
pay you $100 to bring in your
tractor or $50 to bring in your

$ 199 for tractors and $99 for lawn
mowers.^
They will give you a complete
estimate before beginning ser-
vice. Any charge above the base
price must be approved by you
before the work is done.
Don’t Forget.
Don’t forget about the $100 or
the $50 they give you for just
bringing your tractor or lawn
mower in. That brings the base
