NOTICE
TO CANDIDATES FOR
PUBLIC OFFICE
For many year* the BEE has printed newutories without charge
when candidates announce for public office. Many newspapers
charge for this service, and many years ago the BEE also con-
sidered this as advertising. However, there is news value to an-
nouncements for public office when they are first made,so the
BEE decided to run them without charge—but OHLY if the an-
nouncement is brought to the BEE when it is first made or as
soon as the candidate first files for office.
In recent years the practice has been for a number of candidates
to bring in public announcements to be run as news weeks after
the filing deadlines have past and the fact that they are can-
didates is generally known. In such situations the BEE can no
longer accept these delayed announcements as news. In the
future delayed announcements will be accepted only as adver-
tisements and will be billad as such.
The BEE will still accept announcements as news if they are
brought to the BEE first and when the candidate first announces,
but only on that basis.

Two From Lumberton
To Attend Lutheran
Ecumenical Event
Rev. Richard Mumme and
Dennis Bush, members of Glo-
ria Dei Lutheran Church of
Lumberton, will participate in
a significant ecumenical event
in San Antonio April 29 to May
1 at the Convention Center.
“Becoming One in the Son” is
the Convention theme.
They will be a part of a
delegation of nearly 1,000 who
will articipate in a combined
convention of the American
Lutheran Church and the Lu-
theran Church of America.
They represent 400 congrega-
tions of the ALC's Southern
District (located in Texas,
Louisiana, Arkansas and New
Mexico) and the LCA’s Texas-
Louisiana Synod.
This Combined convention is
one of the first to be held since
last fall, when national bodies
of both groups voted to unify.
They, along with the Associa-
tion of Evangelical Lutheran
Churches (AELC) plan to cre-
ate an entirely new Lutheran
Church by 1988, which will
become more than 5 milliom
members strong.
Participating in the conven-
tion will be the presidents of
both major bodies, Dr. James
Crumley, bishop of the LCA,
and Dr. David Preus, presiding
bishop of the ALC. Also, Dr.
August Wenzel, bishop of the
Southern District, and Dr.
Philip L. Wahlberg, bishop of
the Texas-Louisiana Synod,
will have key roles in the
activities.
The first afternoon session
will begin with a worship
service and a presentation by
. Dr. Crumley for both bodies of
delegates. A joint Communion
Worship service will be held
Friday evening. Other high-
lights include a special youth
Convo for young people of both
church groups, and a combined
chior.
