Easily Captured After Swallowing a
Castiron Rabbit.
ROCKWOOD, Pa., June 3.—When
Gibson Umstott, a farmer living near
Cresaptown, Md., beard a strange
noise on his porch he Investigated
and was startled to see a huge black
snake in the act of swallowing a
cast iron rabbit painted in natural
colors, which had been on duty as
a weight to keep the front door of
the house open. While the snake
completed the task, it could not es-
cape and was captured.

CHICAGO, 111., June 3.—The May
grand Jury practically concluded its
Investigation of Chicago’s “crime
trust” with the voting of eight addi-
tional Indictments against seven for-
tune tellers, who are charged with
the operation of a confidence game
and with conspiracy to defraud.
Three new defendants were included
in the new batch of indictments.
Barney Bertsche, politician and sa-
loonkeeper, was made a codefendant
in three specific charges of conspi-
racy to defraud and operating a
confidence game. The new men
named in the true bills are "Pro-
fessor” Edward McCabe, Gordon F.
Salisbury and Jesse Guillage, the
last named a former partner of
Frank S. Ryan, alias “Professor"
Robert L. Milton.
Policemen and detectives accused
of getting protection money from
criminals and "seers” will be calle
before the June grand jury.
