a $20 entry fee ($30 family rate)

DENVER CITY-After a
heartbreaking loss to Sweetwater
Tuesday, the Seminole Indian
"Baseball team got back orf the
winning track Friday as they
blasted the Denver City Mustangs,
13-0 in Denver City.
The contest was never in
doubt, as the Indians tallied one
run in the first inning, five in the
second, two in the third, one in
the fourth, one in the sixth and
three in the seventh inning.
Michael Martinez came
through with a brilliant pitching
performance, allowing just one
Mustang hit and striking put 10
Denver City batters. The
Mustangs could not muster a hit
until two outs in the bottom of the
sixth inning.
4 Seminole had 13 runs on 10
hits and two Errors, while Denver
City had no runs, one hit and five
errors.
Robert Ramirez scored three
runs for the Indians and contrib-
uted one hits and one run batted
in; Matt Hawkins scored twice
and also had a hit and rbi; Pedie
Guerra drove in 3; Evan Stone
had two hits and-^batted in three
runs; Matthew Castleberry had a
hit and drove in a run; Martinez
scored twice and had two hits;
Ross Whitfield came through
with one run, one hit and
one rbi; Eric Rodriguez had oen
hit, scored once and had an rbi;
Tyson Farmer scored twice; and
Treu Curiel scored once and bat-
ted in a run.
Ramirez began the game with
a lead off walk, Hawkins then
grounded out, moving Ramirez
to second. Guerra flew out and
Stone singled in the first run.
In the second, Seminole
scored five times on a Martinez
double, a Whitfield single, a Farm-
er walk, Curiel was hit by a pitch,
Ramirez singled, Hawkins singled'
and a Stone single.
In the third, Whitfield was safe
on an error. Farmer was safe on
The fourth inning saw
Guerra single, an advance to
second on an error, and an rbi
double by Castleberry.
In the sixth, Ramirez
was safe on an error and
scored on a Guerra single.
The seventh inning
saw Martinez score on a Ro-
driguez single, Farmer -reach
on a fielder's choice and both
Rodriguez and Farmer score on
a Guerra double.
The win moved the
Indians to 8-6 on the season
and 2-1 in District 3-3A play.
Seminole will be back
in action Tuesday, hosting Lamesa in a 7 p.m. contest at Ryan field
Maidens Shut Out by
Merkel, 10-0 Friday
25TH ANNIVERSARY
Pictured are members of the 1979 Class 2A State Champion Seminole
High School Basketball team honored in Austin March 12 and 13 on the
25th anniversary of their state championship. On March 12, the Semi-
nole Schools sponsored a reception for the team at the Doubletree Guest
Suites, with approximately 60 persons attending. Saturday morning, they
were recognized at halftime of the Texas Cup game between Grady and
Normangee at the Erwin Center in Austin. Team members are. front

MERKEL--The Seminole
Maiden Softball team continued to
have its problems in district play,
losing to Merkel, 10-0 Friday, in a
game called after five innings.
The Maidens only managed
one hit, a single by Laura McMan-
nis in the fifth inning, off Lady
Badger pitcher Shelbie Lippe,
who also had five strikeouts.
Merkel took a 1-0 lead in the
first inning and it stayed that way
until the fourth, when the home
team scored eight runs on six hits
and four Maiden errors.
Alicia Toombs led Merkel with
two singles and two runs batted
in, while Terra Landtroop added a
triple and two runs batted in.
With the victory, Merkel moved
to 13-7 on the season and 5-2 in
district play.
The Maidens fell to 5-16 on the
season and 0 7 in loop play.
Seminole will return home
Tuesday to host Lamesa in a con-
test that will begin at 5 p.m.

on the season and 1-1 in District 3-
AAA play after a 5-3 extra innings
loss to the Sweetwater Mustangs
Tuesday night at Ryan Field.
The Texas West Friends of NRA
will be hosting a
Fundraiser Banquet
on
Tuesday, April 6th
at the
Gaines County Civic Building
Doors Open at 6:00 p.m.
so everyone can view the shooting and hunting
prizes that will be auctioned off or won by
individuals in the many drawings.
The Meal Will Be Served at
7:00 p.m.
