8/1—Officers were notified
that a tractor-trailer had struck a
light post in the 800 block of the
Hobbs Highway and failed to stop.
Street and Northwest Avenue E.
Officers said a 1988 Jeep
Cherokee, driven by Brett Stegall,
34, of 2107 NW Avenue C, was
headed west on Northwest E and
proceeded through the intersection

Officers attempted to find the
rig, but were unable to do so.
Information was taken from
Xcel Energy officials and
investigation is underway.
8/3—While on patrol, officers
stopped a vehicle in the 2000 block
of North Main for speeding.
Further investigation revealed
the driver, identified as Teresa
Gutierrez, 36, of Andrews had two
outstanding warrants out of the
Terry County.
Police arrested Gutierrez and
transported her to the Gaines
County Law Enforcement Center.
8/4—Officers were dispatched
to a residence in the 300 block of
Southeast Avenue K in reference to
a window of a vehicle broken by a
pellet gun.
Officers met with a
complainant, who told them
estimated damage to the window
was $230 Investigation is
underway.
8/4—A complainant in the 800
block of Southwest 8"! Street told
police a person or persons unknown
had damaged his mailbox and sheet
metal fence in the front yard of the
residence
of E and Northwest 4lh and was
struck by a 1997 Ford pickup,
driven by Cruz Olivas, 45, of
County Road 30IB, which was
headed north on 4,h.
Moderate to heavy damage
was sustained by both vehicles.
Olivas was cited for failure to yield
right of w av.

8/3—Seminole Volunteer
Firefighters were called to a fire on
County Road 205, where a spot on
the facia board of the home was
burned, causing minor damage.
8/3—Seminole Volunteer
Firefighters were called to a grass
fire 13 miles southw est of Seminole
on the Frankel City Highway.

Members of the Seminole ISO Board of Trustees met Monday and
conducted a final walk through for the new addition at F J Young
Elementary Members toured the new facility and with only minor touch-
up work to be done the board accepted the building

7/30—Seminole Police
investigated an accident at the
intersection of Northwest Avenue J
and Northwest 10* Street
Investigators said a 1997 Ford
pickup, driven by Javier Saavedra.
Jr,, 19, of 601 SE 5* Street, wa§
headed south on I (I* and a 1999
Ford Escort, driven by Katasha
Luckey. 19, of Scagravcs. was
stopped facing west at the stop sign
Police said Luckey failed to
yield right of way and struck the
pickup, causing minor damage to
the pickup and heavy damage to
the Escort.
Luckey was cited by officers
for failure to yield right of way (stop
sign) and Saavedra was cited for no
driver's license.
8/1—Seminole Police
investigated an accident at the
intersection of Northwest Avenue F
and the Denver City Highway just
before noon.
Investigators said a 1998
Chevrolet pickup, towing a
homemade utility trailer an4,driver
by Richard Loyd, 43, of Andrews,
was headed south on the Denver
City Highway and a 2000
Mitsubishi Galant, driven by Jody
Davidson, 24, of 303 NW Ave J,
was headed west on Northwest F.

Receive Lubbock Area Grant
Police said the Davidson
vehicle failed to yield to the pickup
and was struck by the pickup in the
intersection. The impact caused the
trailer to flip and disengage from
the pickup.
Both the Davidson vehicle and
the pickup sustained heavy damage,
while the trailer sustained moderate
damage.
Davidson was cited by officers
for failure to yield right of way.
8/2—Seminole Police
investigated a two-vehicle accident
at the intersection of Northwest 4*
John Peters, Seminole Junior
High ESL/High School German
teacher and Cary Moring, junior
high principal, received a $600
grant from the Lubbock Area Grant
Foundation during a ceremony
Wednesday in Lubbock.
The Foundation distributes
grants to classroom teachers for
innovative projects that will benefit
as many students as possible.
Peters applied for the grant this
past Spring as part of a Texas Tech
University project on which he was
working.
Money from the grant will be
used to purchase bo6ks, magazine
subscriptions and reference
materials for the junior high library
and Spanish culture, literature and
in what Peters termed the “Spanish
German Awareness Project." The
project will increase the number of
German and Spanish materials
available to students at Seminole
Junior High.
The focus will be on material
that promotes awareness of German
languages, since both languages are
well represented in the Seminole
schools.
Pictures Available
Cap and gown photographs
taken during graduation ceremonies
are now available and may be
picked up at the high school office.
Substitute Coffee To Be Held August 8

Loop Band
Due to conflicts, the date for
the Seminole ISD substitute coffee
has been changed to Thursday,
Aug. 8 at 10 a m. in the board room
of the school administration
building.
All persons who have served
as substitutes in the past or are
intersted in serving for the 2002-
2003 school year should attend
Information will be given out,
as well as sign-up sheets. Building
principals will be present to answer
The summer band schedule for
the Loop schools will run Aug. 7
(today) through August 16.
August 7-13, the full band will
practice from 9 a.m.-!2:30 pm ‘
with an evening practice from 5-7
on Aug. 8 and 13.
Aug. 14-16, the full band will
also practice, with times to be
announced.
