With Last Second Touchdown

MEMBER OF TEXAS PRESS ASSOCIATION 1995
The Windthorst Trojans waited until
the last seconds of play Friday night to
score the winning touchdown and
capture their first district champion-
ship in thirteen years. Justins Boone’s
8-yard run came with just nine seconds
remaining in the game to pull the Big
Blue Crew ahead of Bryson 18-14 for
the District 13-A title.
“I told the boys the game would be
won or lost in the offensive and de-
fensive lines,” said Trojan Head coach
Bill Green. “We effectively controlled
both., .in the nick of time...and pulled it
, out.”
The Cowboys led throughout the
contest after taking advantage of Tro-
jan miscues...including recovering 3
fumbles. Bryson only needed to travel
13 and 21 yards for its scores.
In the first quarter, the Trojans, head-
ing into a 40 mph norther, had a 43-
yard touchdown run by Eric Steinberger
wiped out by a penalty. The Cowboys
used the gusting winds to good advan-
tage when Todd Tuel lofted a high punt
77 yards that carried to Windthorst’s 3-
_ yard line. Three plays later Earl Pierce
fell on a fumble at the 13. Facing 3rd
and 6 at the 9, Tuel swept into the end
zone, and his PAT kick gave Bryson a
7-0 lead with 1:03 left in the opening
period.
Windthorst, who marched up and
down the field all night, retaliated with
an 11-play drive that covered 58 yards.
Steinberger fueled the effort with runs
of 11 and 14 yards, and Boone bulled in nail Tuel for a 5-yard loss, and Randy
