The White House, in an-
nouncing that order, said Amer-

will be given until June 1st to
dispose of their holdings.
It is known that American
speculators have been buying

U.S. TV) the extent that Ameri-

London, they have contributed
to the recent heavy outflow of
gold.
In order to keep the London
market price at a level just
above the official U.S. price of
835 an ounce, the treasury has
approved gold sales in that
market by the Bank of Eng-
land. In turn, the bank has pur-
chased gold from the U.S. to
make up for the amounts sold
on the market in this price-peg-
ging operation.
