BIKING FROM SEA TO
SHINING SEA: Frank
Vandenbogaerde of Ghent,
Belgium began his bike
ride with his back wheel in
the Atlantic and he plans to
put his front wheel in the
Pacific by June 23, as well
as celebrate the 4th of July
in San Francisco. Frank on
his Dutch bicycle has taken
a year off from work to learn
about the United States, riding
between 60 to 70 miles a day,
depending on the weather,
and stopping in National
Parks as well as private homes
to spend nights. While riding
near Gainesville, Florida he
saw a 10-foot alligator, and
while spending one evening
wandering the streets of New
Orleans, he was chased by a
gang of young boys. Frank
said the incident in New
Orleans was the only bad
experience he had on his trip.
Comanche Junior
Rodeo Mascot
By Joe Prado, Comanche 4-H
Rodeo Club Manager
Rodeo Austin has Rodeo
Rusty, and Rodeo Houston
has Howdy. So it is time for
Comanche Rodeo to add a
new tradition. This year will
mark the first year for our
rodeo mascot. This will be
something young girls or boys
may want to be each year.
This year’s mascot is
Sophia Prado. She is the
daughter of Joe Prado and
Chereen Stewart. Sophia
is very excited to represent
Comanche Rodeo for 2014.
Commemorating our
strong western heritage, as
well as our American Indian
history, we have decided to
stay with the community
theme and go with an Indian
Maiden or Brave. This mascot
will be a part of promoting
the rodeo. They will also play
a big role in assisting with
our equine therapy program
throughout the year. So, keep
an eye out for Miss Comanche
Maiden Rodeo Mascot Sophia
Prado.
