MAIDEN
SOFTBALL
The CHS varsity Maidens
closed out district play last
week with a pair of victories,
claiming second place behind
unbeaten Hawley. The
Maidens finished the regular
season with a 19-6 and 12-2
in district play.
The Maidens will face
Henrietta on Thursday in
Mineral Wells in bi-district
action. Game time is set for
6:30 p.m.
Merkel
On Tuesday, the Maidens
blasted Merkel 20-1. Coach
Drew Cleavinger said the
Maidens played great and
everyone contributed. “Every
girl scored at least two runs.
We only had three errors
and they were all in the final
inning.
Madeline Hufstutler had
a “in the park” homerun and
Rachel Ripley slammed her
8th homer of the season.
Kaycie Drewes picked
up the win with a complete
game.
Clyde
On Friday the Maidens
claimed a 5-0 win over the
number 10th ranked Clyde
Lady Bulldogs to nail down
second place in the District
7-2A race.
Coach Drew Cleavinger
said that the Maidens played
a great game against Clyde.
“It was definitely a nail biter
for the first four innings, but
then the Maidens came alive
with their bats in the fifth.
The whole demeanor of the
girls changed for both teams
as soon as we scored our first
runs.”
Kaycie Drewes’ two RBI
doubles opened the scoring
in the fifth. Rachel Ripley
followed with a two run
homer, her 9th of the year.
Ariel Harbour hit a solo
homer in the second, her 2nd
one of the season. Kymberlee
Strickland was 3 of 4 with a
double.
Madison Hagood pitched a
three hitter to pick up the win.
She struck out ten and never
allowed a Clyde base runner
to reach scoring position.
Coach Cleavinger said
Hagood pitched a great game
and the Maiden defense was
strong throughout the entire
game. “The girls played hard
and are definitely ready for
the playoffs!”
