By Scott Carlisle,
Middle School Principal
This past month the
students here at Comanche
Middle School have been
taking the first round of state
mandated tests and preparing
for the next round of testing
which takes place on April
22 and 23. The 4th and 6th
graders took the Math test
on April 22. The 4th and 6th
graders will be taking the
reading test while the 5th
graders are taking the science
test on April 23. The students
have been working extremely
hard and hope to do well on
their tests.
We also had a special guest
on April 10 during a school
assembly. We had a gentleman
come and play the bagpipes
for the students. He spoke on
the Battle of the Alamo and
the “first” bagpiper in Texas.
He talked to the students
about the traditional dress of
a bagpiper, and played a few
songs for the students. This
was a very unique assembly
for the students, and they
really enjoyed listening to the
music. Thank you to Judge
Bonnie Huett for arranging
this assembly for us.
Upcoming events for
Comanche Middle School
include a Rocket Day on April
24 for the 6th grade students.
They will be constructing
paper rockets and launching
them while gathering data
on distance, trajectory, and
creativeness. On May 2 we
have a young lady named
Lizzie Sider who will be doing
a presentation on bullying
and providing a concert for
the students. She has a song
titled “Butterfly”, which is a
personal story about bullying.
We will also have a play day
for the students that day as a
thank you for their hard work
this year.
On May 15, we will also
be taking the 5th and 6th
grade students to the Junior
High for an orientation and to
visit the school they will be
attending next year. The field
trips will begin May 16 with
the 5th grade students going
to the Omni Theater, and the
4th grade students going to
Frontier Texas. The 6th grade
students will be going on their
field trip on May 19 to Dublin.
As you can see, there are
many things going on this
time of year. The students are
still working hard, and the
staff is pushing them every
second of the day. It takes a
team to make all of this work,
which is why our motto this
year has been “Teamwork
Makes the Dream Work”.
NOTE: There will be
an Early Release for all
Comanche ISD students at
12:30 pm on Monday, April
28.

Gustine Tigers take Tennis
District Championship

By Coach Waylon Salinas
The Gustine Tigers
competed very well this year.
We are very proud of the hard
work these athletes put in during
the season. The Tigers showed
tremendous effort and a lot of
heart throughout their matches.
The season had it's ups and
downs for a few of our athletes,
but the Tigers fought on.
At District, Makayla and
Mackenzie Robbins placed
third in Girl's Doubles, barely
losing in the playback to a very
strong team. Hans Hoekman
and Baltasar Badillo also placed
third, losing in the playback
in Boy's Doubles. Clinton
Gregory fought hard in the
championship, but fell short,
placing second overall in Boy's
Singles. Meagan Hoekman
and Jaze Randolph fought
graciously as they clawed their
way to the top, becoming the
Mixed Doubles Champions.
At the end of the tournament
the boys held on to be crowned
District Champs.
It was a very exhilarating
season and one that I will
remember for a very long
time. I wish the best of luck to
our graduating athletes as we
continue to maintain success
here at Gustine ISD. Thank
you. Go Tigers!
