He urged the group present to
form a local unit which is needed
to help cover this-area in search
and rescue operations,
communications, cadet training
and education.
A CAP squadron was
organized and active in Gaines
County for a period of time, but
was disbanded a number of years
ago.
Brown indicated that about 15
members were needed to form an
effective group. There is some
expense involved with $65 initial
dues and $60 annually thereafter,
uniforms and accessories,
communications equipment, etc.
with cost depending on the
commitment of the members and
the group.
The CAP is active not only in
air and ground search and rescue,
but also disaster services, weather
watching, civil defense, law
enforcement search, Red Cross
inspection, air show
participation, etc.
To be a member, a person
must be between the age of 18
and 65, and it is strictly voluntary
participation.
Brown invited the group to
attend the regular meeting of the
Lubbock Squadron to be held
Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Horton
Aero on the cast side of Lubbock
International Airport. The
Lubbock Squadron will help in
any way possible to get a local
CAP unit established here.
Present for the initial meeting
held at Seminole Bookstore and
Sandwich Shop were Virginia
and Dan Bergen, John Houscka,
Matt Jenkins, Randy Zelncr, Tom
Parsons, and Gene Dow.
