Chrystal Opry House Gospel Event
The Melody Ranch Gospel Band
will perform on Saturday September
21st. at 7 p.m. Members of this band
are Judy Ziola, piano and vocals, Joey
Whitfield, bass and vocals, A1 Guinn,
guitar and vocals, George Kirby,
fiddle, Tom Hackney, guitar and
vocals, Archie Shearer, lead guitar
and vocals, Pat Shearer, vocals, Bill
Hayes, guitar and vocals. Our special
guest is Rocky Crigler.
Admission for the evening is $7 per
adult. Children under 12 are admitted
free. Youth 12-17 are half price.
The Chrystal Opry house is located
at 1977 White Mound Road, Sherman,
Texas which is 1.5 miles west of Tom
Bean or 6 miles east of Howe on FM
902 and a half mile south on White
Mound Road. No alcohol is permitted
and there is no smoking inside the
building. Seating is provided.
Food is available at the snack bar
inside the Opry House during the
shows. We serve hot dogs, chopped
brisket sandwiches, candy, soda,
coffee, water, and ice cream novelties.

Three new teachers for
elementary school
Whitewright
Elementary School
hired three new teachers
for the 2013-2014
school year, Lindsey
Blackburn, Kristi
Rhoten and Coach Dene
Adams.
Lindsey Blackburn
came to Whitewright
ISD at the start of the
second semester last
school year and taught a
new section of 3rd grade
that was required due to
the number of students
in that grade. This year
she is teaching 4th grade
language arts. She has
been in Whitewright
for a year and before
that she was in College
Station. She holds a
Bachelor of Business
Administration from
Stephen F. Austin and
has a teaching certificate
in early childhood to 6th
grade. She is married to
Brian Blackburn who
teaches and coaches
at the middle and high
schools. She enjoys
cooking, reading, and
watching basketball
games. Her favorite
movie is Hope Floats
and favorite food is
enchiladas.
Kristi Rhoten is the
new 3rd grade math
teacher. This is her
18th year in teaching,
she has also taught in
Lewisville, Belton,
Canton and Prairiland.
She holds a Bachelor
of Arts in elementary
educations and a Master
of Arts in elementary
administration from
Harding University.
She is married to Wes
Rhoten, who is the
athletic director and
head football coach at
WHS and they have
two daughters, Landry
and Emory. She enjoys
sports and watching
her daughters in all of
their activities. She
loves all sports movies
and her favorite food is
Mexican.
Coach Dene Adams
is the new PE teacher
at WES. She also is the
head volleyball coach,
and assistant coach in
basketball and track at
WHS. She is married
to Jayson Adams and
they have two children,
Raylynn and Jayce.
She has been a PE
teacher for 10 years, six
years at Dimmitt High
School and four years
at Bells High School.
She attended Lubbock
Christian University.
She enjoys attending
sports and spending
time with her family at
the lake.
Comptroller distributes $2 million in sales tax to GC cities

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs
distributed almost $2 million in sales
tax revenue for August to 16 cities
in Grayson County. Whitewright’s
portion was 12 percent less than last
year at this same time. Whitewright’s
sales tax collections for August were
$20,011.55 compared to $22,862.68
last year. Year to date amounts are also
down 12 percent with payments year to
date for Whitewright of $188,197.78
compared to last year at this same time
with $213,239.51 in total collections.
The City of Bells sales tax rebate
showed an increase of 19 percent
over the same month in 2012 with
$17,192.44 in collections. During
the same taxing period last year,
$14,436.49 was collected. Year to date
sales tax collections total $145,540.59
and in the same time period in 2012,
$132,260.56 was collected showing an
increase of 10 percent on the year to
date figures.
The City of Tom Bean sales tax
rebate dropped almost 17 percent
over the same month in 2012 with
$5,685.00 in collections. During the
same taxing period last year, $6,824.73
was collected. Year to date sales tax
collections total $49,088.87 which
is over the same time period in 2012
with $47,617.18 collected, showing an
increase of three percent for the year.
Combs announced Wednesday
that state sales tax revenue in August
was $2.39 billion, up 2.1 percent
compared to August 2012. “The
latest monthly gains were led by
sectors such as construction and the
restaurant industry,” Combs said.
“For the recently ended fiscal year,
state sales tax revenue totaled $25.8
billion, an increase of 7.2 percent
from fiscal 2012. Both business and
consumer spending contributed to the
gains for the year.” Combs will send
cities, counties, transit systems and
special purpose taxing districts their
September local sales tax allocations
totaling $575 million, up 2.8 percent
compared to September 2012. The
sales tax figures represent monthly
sales made in July.
