Of St. Mary's, Freer
Freer — St. Marys Catholic church
niet back in the "boom da s” in a plumb-
ing shop. Later, services were held in a
feed store. The present brick church was
donated by the late Mary C. Hubbard in
1938, and Mass was held the last Sunday
in each month. Mission priests from San
Diego came over on Sundays and Holy
Days. Father Angel Vizcarra became the
first resident priest in 1955.
Father Juan Blazquez was resident
priest from 1957 to 1967, during which
time the church was remodeled, a parish
hall was built, and the rectory was com-
* pletely modernized. Too, additional prop-
erty was purchased for a parking lot area
and more Church grounds.
Father Epifanio Rodriguez became resi-
dent priest in 1967.

Area Sister Attends Woodstock Workshop on Religious Life
Woodstock, Md. — In a cross-commu-
nity endeavor 150 Sisters representing 96
religious congregations of women grap-
pled with challenging new directions of
religious life during a two-week workshop
on the Formation of Sisters.
Held at Woodstock college June 23-
July 8, the workshop was sponsored and
directed by the Leadership Group of the
Sister Formation Conference. The meeting
was the first of its kind.
Among the participants was Sister
Mary Cathedrine, I.W.B.S., postulant di-
rectress from Incarnate Word convent.
Participants came from every geo-
graphical area of the United States and
included 16 Sisters still in formation as jun-
ior professed, novices, or candidates.

KEYNOTE speaker Father John Me-'
Call, S.J., of Weston college, Weston,
. Mass., has predicated that the workshop
might prove to be "a momentous meeting
which could change religious life in the
United States.’ Participants in the work-
shop prepared and offered their "consen-
sus statements” to their own and all oth-
er religious communities of women as a
gesture of hope, and affirmation of reli-
gious life, as a demonstration of unity in
diversity, and as an example of what can
happen when the principles of flexibility
and openness to the Spirit operate on the
level of interpersonal'relations.
Laredoans Chosen To Attend
MOST OF the participants were per-
sons engaged in formation work, but the
broader range of community life and ex-
perience was represented by college, high-
school, elementary school, hospital, and
social service administrators, vocation
personnel, major and local superiors, and
Sisters "from the ranks.”

Talks, July 21
Temple, Tex. — (Special) — Willard
Green, head of 32,000 Texas Knights of
Columbus, announced today 11 regional
conferences had beerv scheduled July 21
to implement newly approved community
and religious action programs.
The regional meetings will be held in
Hereford, Irving, Austin, Victoria, El
Paso, Houston, Alice, Tyler, Abilene, San
Antonio and Nederland.
"The day-long discussions,” said Green,
"will concern the specific projects ap-
proved a week earlier in Waco by more
than 100 officers, district deputies and
state committeemen.
"They are designed to stimulate the
200 Texas councils’ charitable and civic
undertakings throughout the state.”
The Panhandle regional meeting in
Hereford will be in charge of David
Poundstone of Amarillo; the North Cen-
tral in Irving in charge of William D.
Cox, Jr., of Dallas; the Central in Austin;
Louis S. Parker, Jr., and the mid-South
in Victoria, James F. Houlihan of Port
Lavaca.
The Western regional meeting in El
Paso will be directed by Joseph L. Ceci;
the South-Central in Houston by Dan
Shook; the Valley and Corpus Christi
meeting in Alice by Lino Perez, Jr., of
Rio Grande City, and the Eastern in Ty-
ler by Michael Gollob.
At the mid-West regional meeting in
Abilene, Emil Ogden will be in charge, at
the South-Central conference in San An-
tonio, Alfred N. Nicolas of Corpus Chris-
ti, and the Southeastern in Nederland,
Henry LaLande of Beaumont.

gree and her library certification from
Our Lady of the Lake, is.

Teacher’s association, the Texas Library
association, the Elysian social club, and
is currently serving as president of the
Laredo International alumnae of Our
Lady of the Lake college. In addition to
being a coordinator she is establishing a
resource library which will be located at
the new media center to be opened this
fall. She is currently residing at 1520
Marcella, in Laredo.
Aside from the intensive classroom
schedule and visits to historical San An-
tonio sites and Mexican-American com-
munities in the city and Hidalgo county,
participants will make a three-day field
trip to Nuevo Leon, Monterrey, and Sal-
tillo, Mexico.
Bible Course Set
At Christopher
College Aug. 5-16
Corpus Christi — Christopher college
will offer a two week course in modern
Scripture study beginning Monday, Aug.
5, and ending Friday, Aug. 16. Using his
own book, The Wcrd Dwells Among
Us, as the text, Reverend William Lynch,
C.M., will focus upon the Bible as Christ
still dwelling among His people, in ser-
mons, in the living Word, and. in .he lit-
urgy.
Father Lynch, a Vincentian priest, has
been travelling extensively thrrughout
the country giving lectures in the new
theology for the renewal and cor ;inuing
education program in his own religious
order.
The course, for which two s-imester
hours may be earned, will be taught dai-
ly from 8 to 11 a.m. and is oaen to
priests, religious, and laity. Registration
will be held from 10 to 12 on Friday,
Aug. 2 at Christopher college, 2917 Aus-
tin street.
