TO: Our beloved priests, religious and laity:
Greetings and good wishes!
The very utte ince of the single word, Christmas, con-
jurs up in the mind a wealth of imagery that is both beautiful
and magnificent in every detail. Christmas is a time of
feasting and of joy. It is a time when we exchange gifts with
one another, gifts which should characterize this feast with
goodne and humanity. It is a time that gives opportunity
for deep and prayerful meditation when we perceive the love
of God in the Person of His divine Son, bom to redeem us,
born of a Virgin Mother, born in a stable of Bethlehem and
wrapped in swaddling clothes.
As we kneel before the Christmas Crib and contemplate
the scene before us, we know that hrist does not come to
take away, but rather to give He does not come to obstruct
our freedom—our activity—our humanity. His presence
mong us is to enlighten, to enlarge and to gladden this life of
ours for our life docs need this mysterious Infant guest—
Christ Jesus, Our Lord.
In our endeavor to observe Christmas in a Fitting man-
ner, it is of primary importance that we maintain its
religious character For Christ was bom a Holy Infant in a
Holy City on a Holy night and of a Holy Virgin Mother. The
scent; itself takes us to Bethlehem where angelic voices Fill
the heavens with untold joy; where shephereds are hurrying
along to visit the new-born Babe—where wise men come to
kneel in Adoration.
The mentality of our own time seeks to discover the
reality of so important an event as the birth of the Savior.
Yet, the answer is obvious and there for us to accept. Jesus
means Savior and Christ means Me -.iah in who m is centered
the divine plan relating to man’s lestiny. Here we discern
what St. Paul in his letter to Titus describes as the goodness
and the kindness of God. Here, then, is the answer to our
inquiry. God has made manifest His great love for us in the
birth of this Son.

A Nuestros Muy Amados Sacerdotes,
Religiosos y Laicos; P;i7. y Bien
coartar, a obstruir nucstra libertad, nuestra actividad,
nuestra humanidad. Su presencia entre nosotros ilumina
nuestra vida, la engradece y alejta. Nuestra vida tenia
Cristo Jesus, nuestro Senor.
Salvador. No obstante, la respuesta la tenemos bien clara
y aceptada por nosotros. Jesus signified Salvador y Cristo
