For Installation
The National Honor
Society set October 15
as the day for install-
ing new officers and
recognizing new mem-
bers. A short ceremony
will be performed for
the student body in
the auditorium.
Four students who
were probationary mem-
bers list year will be-
come active this year.
They have ordered their
pins.
Eight probationary
members will be in-
stalled by taking an
oath to the society.
The probationary mem-
bers will not be able
to vote in any meet-
ings, but they can ex-
press their viewpoint
on certain matters.
Mrs. Fall will spon-
sor this annual pro-
gram.
STEPHEN FALL EARNS
EAGLE SCOUT AWARD
Steven Fall, a 15-
year old sophomore, has
recently become an
Eagle Scout. S t e ven
has been working tr~
wards this honor for
about four years.
Steven explained the
rank of Eagle Scout as
the highest rank in
scouting you can ob-
tain. There are twenty
one different mer it
badges you must earn
before receiving this
rank. When you become
an Eagle Scout, you
have become a leader of

Marsha Lewis, a sen-
ior of A.C.H.S., has
been selected as citi-
zen of the month for
September. Besides be-
ing an outstanding stu-
dent in her s chool work,
Marsha is the editor of
the "Cat’s Claw" and
16 STUDENTS ATTEND
SCIENCE SYMPOSIUM
Sixteen science stu-
dents from Archer City at-
tended a Nuclear Science
Symposium at the Midwestern
University Auditorium on
Saturday, September 26.
This program was presented
by Midwestern University
and the Texas Electric
Service Company, which is
a member of the Texas Atom-
ic Energy Research Founda-
tion.
The first guest speaker
was Mr. H. R, Drew, the
Executive Vice President
of the Texas Atomic Energy
Research Foundation. In
his talk on the "Atom and
Electric Power,” he dis-
cussed six new ways in
which to generate electri-
city because the use of
electrical energy is doub-
ling every 8 years.
A very interesting film
entitled "Reaching for the
Stars,” which dealt with
the making of space crafts
and getting ready for the
moon, was shown.
Dr. Park H. Miller of
San Diego, California, a
scientist engaged in the
controlled nuclear fusion
research program, reported
on results of experiments
with a new type of "stabi-

rector of Nuclear Research
Laboratory at the Univer-
sity of Texas, described
and showed pictures of the
nuclear reactor at Texas.
To conclude the program

and question period was
held.
