Juno Term of tho District Court of
Marion County Texas 1006
Judge P A Turner
Fifth Judicial District
Sir
Having completed our labors as
Grand Jurymen impanolled on
tho 11th day of June 1906 we have
the honor making this our final
report
We have been in session eight
days and have carefully examined
into all violations of tho law re-
ported to us and have returned
bills of indictment whore we deem-
ed the evidence sufficient to con-
vict showing partiality to none
Wo have returned 9 bills of in-
dictment for miodemeanors 26
bills of indictment for felonies
We are advised that arrange-
ments have been perfected to work
all county convicts on the public
roads and wish to say that we
heartily indorse this arrangement
for two reasons as follows
First Because this should put
roads in good condition for the
travelling public and repay the
County for the money expended
in feeding and caring for the pris
oners if confined in the County
JailOur
Our second reason and wo deem
it a very important one is that it
will relieve our Officers of the very
great responsibility that some of
them assume in parolling con-
victed prisoners prior to the pay-
ment ovtheir fines When this ar-
rangement goes into effect our Offi-
cers will not have tq be summoned
before the Grand Jury to bffer ex-
cuses for turning convicted per-
sons loose without good and suffi-
cient bonds to save the County the
heavy expense of feeding useless
prisonersbut can then require first
class bonds or else turn them over
to the Overseer of the public roadB
and let them work their fines out
The Committee appointed for the
inspection of the Jail report it
well kept with no complaint what
ever from the prisoners regarding
food and attentiou They call at-
tention to the fact that there are no
sash in the windows and recom-
mend that they be put in before
the winter season sets in for the
sake of economy in fuel as well as
adding comfort to the inmates
Tho Finance Committee report
that on account ot insufficient
data it is impossible to chock
the Justice of the Peace
Constables County Judge and the
Sheriff with any degree of accura-
cy aud recommend that the Com-
missioners Court furnish tho Pre-
cinct Officers with blanks to ena-
ble than to make an intelligible re-
port and that they insist that they
make these reports quarterlyas re-
quired by law
The record of the County Clerk
Tax Collector and Treasurer were
found accurately and neatly kept
We find that there is quite a
number of old unpaid Convict
Bonds on hand amounting to some-
thing over 81650 00 some of them
almost barred by tho Statute of
Limitations and we recommend
that the County Attorney take im-
mediate steps in collecting or en-
tering suit on these bonds before
they become null arid void We
attach herewith a list of these
bonds
We wish to thank your honor for
your very clear and able charge
and alpo wish to extend thanks to
the County Officials who so freely
rendered us assistance
Bringing this now our final act
to a close wo most respectfully re-
quest that wo be discharged
