THE FARMERS INSTITUTE
Interest In Meeting Is Good But At-
tendance Is Small Prominent
Men Are Here t
ti
The Andeison County Farmers In-
stitute met at the city hallat 11
oclock today with a small uutflnter
ested number piesent
j The institute was called tojforder
by President J F Nash who stated
that he telt eij much discouraged
over the small attendance and the
lack of interest on the part > of the
farmers who were to be benefitted by
the meeting and the organization
Then Rev J Kilgoie pastorof Cen-
tenary climch led in prayer In the
absence of the mayor Judge John M
King delivered the address J oft wel-
come He spoke both seriously and
earnestly and for thiity minutes en-
tertained in his usual manner The
judge as an extempore speaker has
but few equals and on this occasion
he did not have a minutes notice
But j ou cant lose him whether it is
leading a prajei meeting or talking
agnculture
Hon B F Rogeis responded in his
usual happy i em and told some point-
ed truths about the farmer and Tiis
condition and possibilities
Mr J F Nash was then called upon
to tell of his potato experience and
briefly he related his method of farm-
ing in producing 453 bushels of Iiish
potatoesMo the acre This talk alone
would be worth thousands Qf dollars
to Anderson county farmers if they
would but apply the suggestions Mr
V
gieat deal of care to successfully
raise lemon treesin this part of Tex-
as as the least bit of frost will kill
them No doubt Mr Tonnahill has
great expectations when he will be
able to deal out lemons with a free-
hand

Richard Mansfield has made a
wonderful record in Dr Jekyll and Mr
Hjde It is one of the most power-
ful and stirring masterpieces ever
written The play presents a moral
that defies illustration in words It
must be seen to be understood The
New Oi leans people had ilr Mans-
field in the play last week and now
at the Elysian Theatre the Spooners
aie appearing in a splendid produc-
tion of this popular drama No pop-
ular pi iced company this season can
be compared with this fine organiza-
tion Mr Edwin N Wallock a young
and promising educated leading man
is surpiisingly clever in this great
dual lole To challenge comparison
with Mansfield seems a big undertak-
ing but to witness Mr Wallocks per-
formance it does not seem hard to
understand why the theatre patrons
aie so loud in their commendations
and why so many regaid him fully as
equal to the exigencies of this role
as is Mr Mansfield Miss Allie
Spooner is always above the aveiage
and t > he gave to the part of Alice a
lifelike internjetation The special-
