After an abseence i of a few
months we again appear in your
columns and, of course,1 are glad
to receive the county’s best in re-
turn.
The farmers are still ; busily en-
gaged gathering the fleecy staple.
The average yield isTully a halt
bale to the acre.
The corn crop was light, but all
have enough for their own use and
some to spare.
Our school, under jthe super-
vision of J. T. Jaeggli as principal,
and Miss Pattie White as assistant,
begins today. With j the same
teachers our school promises to be
a successful one.
Saturday the Hochheim Prairie
Schutzen Yerein held their annual
fest. In the afternoon the crowd
was small but at night the ball was
well attended. Mr. Till, Jr., was
ordered king, as he Reached the
highest score. He selected Miss
Wagner as queen. The Shiner
band furnished the music.
Mrs. Wm. Eschenberg has been
absent from home for a j week at-
tending the bedside of*her mother,
Mrs. Rieleteld, at Gonzajles.
Arnold Poth of Gheapside visit-

M. P. H. company meeting, held
last night, kindly furnished by
Secretary Hugo Hardtu
The meeting was called to order
by Vice President J. M. Cypher.
The' minutes of the previous
meeting were read and adopted.
The receipts of the evening from
dues and fines amounted to $3. .
A bill for 50 cents presented by
J. R. Nagel and Son was ordered
paid.
The invitation of H. P. H. com-
pany to attend the dedication of
their new' hose cart, to occur
Thursday evening, October 26, at
7 o’clock, was*read and accepted.
On motion of H. A. Dinter,
seconded by Jack Van Hoogen-
huyze, the secretary was instructed
to ascertain if it was desired mem - *
bers should appear in uniform,and if
so to ask all members of M. P. H.
company, through the columns of,
the press, to appear in full uniform
at Engine House No. 2 Thursday
evening at 7 p. m.
Fritz Koehler appeared and ,
asked the chair if there was *'
any further business before the
house, and if there was not he de- 4
sired to say a few words to the j *r
house.- His request was granted ; |
and in a few welj-cbosen words he
thanked the company for the honor
conferred upon him in electing
him an honorary member. He
then invited the members to join
him down stairs, where he showed
his appreciation in a “substantial
