IS BETTER THAN GREAT RICHES
A good name in man or woman is
no more to be desired than a good
name for a communitys newspaper
A good name for the paper perhaps
Is more to be desired for the influ
ence of the paper for good or evil
Is far greater than1 the Influence of
any one Individual Therefore when
a compliment is sincerely paid tho
Herald by a man of God such as was
paid it recently and has been paid it
before the publishers are justly
proud of the compliment This man
and pastor of one of the leading
churches said The Herald Is one
of the ablest one of the purest one
of the cleanest newspapers I ever
read Good in religion and morals
always on the right side of every
question and always striving for the
best for the community and for the
people There fs no estimating the

ANNOUNCEMENTS
value of such a paper to the commu-
nity
The Herald had rather enjoy such
distinction if merited Sthan to enjoy
great gain or great riches To know
that it is in such a way assisting in
the uplift of the community that a
discriminating servant of the all
wise God recognizes in it a great
moral agent for good is better than
to have gained the whole world and
lost in the everpresent need for good
works
> And the publishers had rather have
these words spoken now than to have
flowers and good words offered after
it is beyond the pale of human sym
pathy or human charity And that is
another thought Say the good things
you have to say to people before they
are dead while they are living and
are able to appreciate tne good opin-
ion expressed Flowers are all well
enough at the funeral but good and
encouraging words to the living are
better
And dont forget it is a good old
town and growing better all the
time
THE GOVERNOR IS COMING BACK
Governor Campbell has announced
that when the term of his office ex
pires he is coming back to Palestine

Of course he is Palestine people
have never anticipated anything else
The governor loves his home and his
home people and they love him Also
the governor is an East Texan to the
manner born He loves his native
hills the babbling brooks the gentle
breeze the shady dells the fields and
valleys the crystal springs and he
loves all that these natural conditions

the beautiful women and takes pride
in the manly men of this blessed sec
tion of the great state Why shouldnt
he come home He is ever as wel-
come as the flowers that bloom in
the spring for his smile is captivat-
ing his personality is an inspiration
and we need him Welcome home
noble son Rest you awhile you have
done your duty well and when you
are again needed you will be called
to the helm of public duty
NOT YET BUT SOON
Split log drag time was almost here
this morning In fact a Herald man
called up Dr T W Smith the drag
demonstrator and asked him if it > was
not time to get busy But he said
nay The doctor had been Inspecting
street conditions and said that
whereas the drag could do seme good
the soil did nothold enough moisture
for a fiinished job and that that was
the kind of job he proposed to do
when he got busy He is gomg to
show them He wants plenty of mud
and moisture with the soil In a per-
fectly plastic condition Then he
will drag He says he is going to
drag a few blocks to a fareyouwell
and then let them dry out smooth
In fact he is going to demonstrate
just what the drag can do and he
wants the conditions just right
for such a demonstration before mak-
ing it

Herald readers do not have to ask
which are the leading stores in Pal
estine They know them by the ads
they run All the business concerns
worth while are Herald advertisers
And there is a reason Advertising
is a profitable investment

To the Ladies of Palestine
There never has been a time inthe
history of the hair business when the
demand for switches puffs curls
waves chignons fringes and all kinds
of hair goods was so tremendous as
it is now Every one who has comb-
ings must have them made up Every
woman must have some false hair or
she cannot get a hat that will be at
all becoming
