Now in its 12th year, “College for
Kids” offers such classes such as
powerful expressions, conversational
Spanish, art exploration, crazy science,
compu ter applications, power writing,
notorious numbers, French, and
creative dramatics.

The San Antonio Independent
School District has announced its
summer school program.
Two summer sessions will be
offered for High School Credit
Courses, beginning with the first
session June 6-30 at Fox Tech and
Edison High Schools. The second
session is July 5-28. Courses offered
include core curriculum courses and
some elective courses. Tuition for
SAISD students range from $75 for
one-half credit to $175 for three full
credits. Registration begins June 5.
The Middle School Program will
be at Connell, Longfellow, Lowell,
and Poe Middle Schools. Classes will
be offered in math, reading, history,
and science. All courses will be
developed around a problem solving
framework based onaCivil War theme.
Tuition is $25.

required for high school graduation
(either TEAMS or TAAS). Non-credit
classes will be offered free of charge
to eligible students in English, math,
and reading.
Fox Tech and Edison will also be
offering driver education for SAISD
students. Registration is June 5 and
tuition is $165 per student.
The Elementary School Academy,
performance of current elementary
school students who are in bilingual,
at-risk, or federal Chapter 1 programs
will be offered free of charge at 10
SAISD schools beginning June 5. The
program concludes July 13.
SAISD will also offer a Elementary
Gifted and Talented Summer
Academy, a Middle School Summer
Band Camp, and and Extended Year
Service special education program.
The Gifted and Talented program
will serve some 175 gifted and talented
students in the 4th and 5th grades at
four elementary school sites. Emphasis
will be on creative andjcritical thinking
skills, problem solving, and
investigative skills. Classes begin June
5.
