Direction
*
In-Stride, Inc. the San Antonio-based
athletic and specialty shoe company,
is giving some local financially dis-
advantaged children the chance to
move into the school year on firm
footing. The company is taking part
in an effort to donate new shoes to
needy children served by the Sonny
Melendrez Foundation.
Ibis initiative, called "VivaZapatos,"
will take place August 14 through

will be able to participate simply be
making a cash donation to KSMG,

money to purchase additional shoes
for the children at a special price of
$15 per pair. To pledge a donation
over the phone, dial (210) 470-
KSMG or mail a check, payable to
the Sonny Melendrez Foundation, to
8930 Four Winds Drive, Suite 500, i

"I think this is a tremendous oppor-
tunity to live up to our responsibility
as corporate citizens to reach out to a
special group in our community,"t
said Tom Adams, CEO of In-Stride.'
"This effort is especially Satisfying;
because we’re helping to meet a ba-
sic need, and the benefits will last
well beyond the day the children
actuallyreceive the shoes. Also, as
we all know, kids have a passion for
athletic shoes."
In September, all the shoes donated
during the 14-day run of "Viva
Zapatos" will be distributed to chil-
dren during asingle mass fitting event
at the Sonny Melendrez Community
Center. In-Stride staff members will
be on hand to make sure each pair of
shoes fits properly. Extra stock will
be available in case any foot sizes
have been recorded incorrectly.
The children only will be receiving
• new shoes, but also will be among
the first in the country to wear the
new children's model of the retama
brand In-Stride will introduce the
children's version of retama in Sep-
tember. Adult retama shoes have
