Kelly's Festival Domino
Champion Honored
The domino champion of
Kelly A.F.B, Festival was
honored recently at an
awards presentation.
Mr. lames
Waldon, better known as
"The Bull" has been an
employee of Kelly for a
great number of years.
The Bull is the founder of
the dormnoe league and is
responsible lor many of
the base wide
(tournament. . He has used
his dormnoe talent to help
raise employee morale and
< orripet111ve spirit. Mr.
Waldon is very respected
throughout Kelly A.F.B.,
lor his dedication and base
wide activities.
Some co-workers go as
I at as stating that "Bull is
a legend in his own time".
Waldon spends so much
time and dedication with
this sport, it is no wonder
that he is known as "The
Bully of the woods", just
as Bull replies, "under that
old oak tree".
According, to sources the
Bull has sixteen
championships under his
belt. Along with the
numerous trophies, Waldo
was honored with a special
invitation to attend and
compete in the World's
Dominoe 'Tournement
Championship of 85’, held
in Apalouce, Alabama.
Waldo is the only person
to receive a special plaque
and—gold metel for his
outstanding performance
as ALC monitor of
tourneyfest competition.
The Bully's Supervisor, Mr.
Fred Barrera, is greatly
appreciated for his support
and cooperation in helping
the Bull reach his ultimate
goals. The goals of which
we speak have again
earned Waldo yet another
"Special Certificate of
Appreciation" for his
professionalism, and
dedication, his outstanding
efforts resulting in the
successful completion of
Tourneyfest '86. This
certificate was signed by
Maj. Gen. Lewis G. Curtis,
USAF Commander, and it
was presented to Waldo by
Mr. George Valenzuela,
Deputy Chief of the
engine division. Waldo also
received numerous letters
of appreciation at t tie
same presentation. In
appreciation for his
talents and generous
contributions of extra
effort. The enthusiasm he
provided is recognized and
appreciated, these
comments were signed by
Laurence N. Grimmard,
Col. USAF, director of
maintenance. The events
to help promote the
traditions of our annual
festivities was a dynamic
success stated Mr. George
Valenzuela. Mr. Waldon
and partner Mr. Ramon
Brueno will be competing
and are expected to win
again! "The Legend Lives
On", Good luck to Mr.
Waldon and Mr. Brueno,
and to all competitors!

Domestic travel Tour
Congratulations to
Vannoy "Renee" Battle,
who was selected as a
participant in Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority's Tenth
Domestic Travel Tour.
Rdnee along with
twenty-nine other girls
from different parts of
the United States toured
historical sites and
Universities in Orlando,
Atlanta* Washington D.C.,
New York City and
Chif Igr> in <^>vpn Hoy's,
proud Aunt and Mrs. Mary
Donovan is the proud
grandmother resident of
this city.
In the fall, Renee will
return to high school
where she will reign as
"Miss Madison" for the
1987-88 school year.

Miss Casandra Graham
of Austin and Mr. Joseph
A. Morrison of San
Antonio were married on
Saturday, Aug. 8 at 6 p.m.
.n the evening at Greater
Mt. Zion Baptist Church in
Austin.
The bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Lee R. Graham of Austin.
She has a bachelor of
arts degree in social work
from Prairie View A <Jc M
University and works in
the Human Services
department.
The groom is the son of
Mrs. Evelyn Morrison of
San Antonio and the late
Don. McClure
Among the Black
Community today
Recent studies have
shown that three of the
most prevalent problems
in the Black community
today are teenage
pregnancy, black y'outh
involvement in drugs, and
, the increasing number of
blacks who are dropping
out of the educational
system prematurely.
Sociologists peg these
three problems as major
contributing factors to
black unemployment and
black poverty.
Gates Elementary School
principal, Donald McClure,
will be the featured
panelist tins Sunday when
tfie Baptist Training Union
at Mt. Calvary Baptist
Church presents a seminar
on the Importance of
Education and the Impact
of Teenage Pregnancy and
\ Drug Abuse on Black
Progress. Educators
representing school
districts from throughout
the city will be joining
McClure on the panel, and
a question and answer
session will follow.
The seminar will be at
5.30 p.m. at Mt. Calvary,
831 Poinsettia.
Dickerson's Studio of Musk
The sweet spund of music^
| is whar ‘ Tina Dickerson?:
loves to hear. A native of*-
Monroe, La., Tina began
playing at age 7. She now
wants to help the very
young to the not so young
learn how to play and sing.
Tina has opened
Dickerson’s Studio of v
Music.
Tina moved to San
Antonio eight years ago
and also teaches vocal
music at Kirby Junior High.
She is the choir director of
Second Baptist Church's
Chancel Choir.
While growing up in
Louisiana, Tina played for
weddings and churches. She
received a music and
academic scholarship to
Dillard University in New
Orleans, ' La. where she
majored in piano,
organ and voice. She also
has done graduated &ork in
voice at Southern Illinois
University.
The gifted musician says
she enjoys working with
young people. She
maintains and excellent
repore with her music
students.
She added that children
can benefit from music
instructions socially,
physically and
academically.--
Tina is a member of the
National Guild of Piano
Teachers, Texas Choral
Directors, Assn. Texas
Music Educators Assn, and
the American Music
Scholarship Assn.
Thursday was the big
day for all who are
concerned about what goes
on around and for the
Hicks Beauty School.
Pvtayor Cisneros said many
good things about the
work that Miss Hicks had
accomplished here when
he presented her the Kool
Award for being San
Antonio's most outstanding
woman for community
service. Miss Hicks sisters
and nephews from
Houston attended.
Mrs. Dorothy McClinton
is to be complimented for
the fine work that she is
doing. She is the president
of International Huston
Tillotson Alumni Assn. She
sent in Miss Hick's name
for the nomination.
Ruth Harris has just
return from vacationing in
Florida and is now ready
to begin, a big year of
teaching in the SA School
District.
