CHS PRINCIPAL TURNS IN RESIGNATION. Cleveland High School principal, Rhonda
McWilliams, pictured with CISD Supt. Mike Clifton, has announced her resignation as CHS
principal, effective July 1. Ms. McWilliams wishes to thank the community, the Cleveland School
Board and the students for their tremendous support this year. Ms. McWilliams says that serving

THE SAN JACINTO COUNTY PROUD ORGANIZATION is having a catfish
luncheon on April 2nd, 12:30 PM, at the Community Center in Coldspring. This
event is scheduled to help raise funds to support the efforts to irrigate the
Courthouse lawn. The irrigation and/or sprinkler system will enable the lawn to
have beautiful shrubs and flowers, beautifying the old structure which is eligible
to be included in the National Registry of Historic Buildings. The cost is adult-
$12.00 ($7.00 lunch + $5.00 donation) children under 12 -$7.00 each. Any
contribution would be appreciated and can be mailed to San Jacinto County Proud
at P.O. Box 995, Coldspring, Tx. 77331.
FRIENDS OF TRI-COUNTY BENEFIT Fish Fry Saturday, April 22, 1995from

DOUBLE LAKE CLOSED. Due to damage from Tuesday's violent storms, the
U.S. Forest Sem’ice has closed Double Lake Recreation Area on the Sam Houston
National Forestfor six to eight weeks. According to Sam Houston National Forest
Ranger Tim Bigler, "The heavy rains and high winds we experienced caused
numerous downed trees, windthrown trees and scattered limbs throughout the
area. The safety of Double Lake visitors is paramount, and until we clear the area
of all safety hazards, we ask recreation enthusiasts to enjoy Stubblefield Lake
Recreation Area, which remains open." Ranger Bigler also cautioned hikers using
the Lone Star Hiking Trail to "use extreme caution, as the trail remains open but
winds or weather could knock down limbs or other debris along the trail." Double
Lake is located off FM 2025, 17 miles North of Cleveland. Stubblefield Lake is
ted off FM 13/ 11 miles wesi of New Waverly.

THE DOWN SYNDROME ASSOCIATION OF HOUSTON announces the 1995
Summer School for parents: Using Technology’ to Teach Spoken and Written
Language Skills. Our speaker is Laura F. Meyers, Ph.D., who is a Research
Linguist at the University of California at Los Angeles. Dr. Meyers has spoken at
several National Down Syndrome Congress Conferences and is recognized as an
expert in her field. Her presentation covers topics on helping persons with Down
Syndrome as well as many other handicaps and covers a wide spectrum of ages,
from babies to adults. The seminar is scheduledfor June 10, 1995 at a convenient

CLE VELAND LOCAL ASSOCIA TION OF TEXAS PROFESSIONAL EDUCA-
TORS has estabished a scholarship fun in memory’ of Laverne Jarboe. It is open
to any graduating senior from Cleveland High School who is pursuing a degree in
education. The scholarship monies may be applied toward the cost of tuition, fees,
or books. Applications can be picked up from Clydie Williams, CHS Counselor.
TARKINGTONP. T.O. will meet Monday night, April 3rd at 7PM in the elemen-
tary cafeteria. Elections for next years officers will be voted on. We urge all
members to attend this meeting.
THE CLEVELAND MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH located at Newman and
North Franklin Streets, will celebrate her twenty-third homecoming on April 9th.
Gospel Music and singing is needed. Anyone interested can call Pastor Bob Tingle

Christian Fellowship. The Pastor, Bob Tingle and wife Gladys will be celebrating
