Had the court sustained the sell-

goods, would have been safe. In
such a ease, u|H>n auy pretest, of-
ficers of customs could seise such

tom-house system, would be virtually
destroyed, boeause no one would en-

loosing them. But hapily we have
the precedent, cetuing from the Court
of the United States that will be most
salutary. U will show that bonded
goods cannot be seized, except they
are in violation el the revenue laws.
lu tbe suits that mnst inevitably
follow this decision of the Court, we
arc told, there will come to light a
train of devolopemcuia that will be
decidedly entertaining. We want to
kn»w whether the movement was in-
' tended to be a purely tea per cent
transaction, or whether the animus
was to break up the oommerce
through Dietriet Rratoe de Santiago
and force it through another Dia-

and judiciously left the weak young
men to take care of themselves. A
gallant ion of Mars now appeared
on the field, not on the |»art of the
weak young men, but in support of
their alledged seducer*. He thought
it wo* tbe evil inclinations of weak
young men, rather than the perni-

that led them iato habits of intempe-

lady iu complying with those rules
of jtoliteuess and hospitality, still
prevalent in genteel society, did not
commit a moral wrong or a crime
in oflerriug a guest a glam of wine,
provided always that she was not a

then appealed from the decision of

was whether the gentleman, was or

Previous to patting the question,
several of the member* made re-

point at ieeue. One made a few
observations oa tbe liberty of speech,
and the impropriety of denouncing
as wrong and oat of order another’s

from ours; he proceeded to warn the

he termed the great enemy of all

he was immediately called to order
by the President. He took his seat
without appeal.
The question was put nud by the

that the seizure was not made under

It was made without probable cause,

It is therefore ordered, adjudged

Mil Rancbeho:—In calling at-
tention to the announcement of the
Hon. James B. Thomas, as a candi-
date for the Seuate of Texas, it is
worthy to remark that he is a gen-
tleman well qualified for the position.
The people of this Valley, were on a
former occasion represented by Mr.
Thomas, in the Legislature. Hi*
course, upon that occasion eras con-
servative, aud well calculated to let
“by-gone* be by-gone*’’ a good guar-
antee for hi* future action. Nor is
this all, Mr. Thomas has n compre-
hensive idea of the political parties
in America, and has mental qualifi-
cations which will give strength to
any measure he may support. He is
well posted, regarding the wants of
this district, and it is donbtfal if a
better selection could be made.
