THE LONE STAR LUTHERAN
Page Three

BASKETBALL PRACTICE TO BEGIN SOON
According to information received from Coach Corder, varsity
basketball practice sessions are to begin shortly. With such veterans
as Webernick, Lindenberg, Dibrell, and Ludwig gone from the ranks
Coach Corder will have to build a team from comparatively inexper-
ienced material.
Six hold-overs from last year’s squad will form the nucleus for
this season’s edition of the Bulldogs. Guenther Luckenbach and
Harold Mueller will be expected to carry most of the burden. Herman
Mansur is sure to be a big threat for the center position.
Up from the freshmen ranks come a number of boys with very
capable high school records. Heading this group is Arnell Archer
of Phillips High School, Birmingham, Alabama; Henry Lehnhoff,
pint-sized sharpshooter from Seguin, and Bobby Zunker, former
flash of Beeville High School.
CORDER OUTLINES NEW
PHYSICAL TRAINING PROGRAM
All male students are taking part in the physical fitness pro-
gram. Coach Corder has outlined a program that will give attention
to at least ten sports plus a routine in military drill and calisthenics.
For two weeks this past summer Corder took instruction from the
Navy Pre-Flight School held at the University of Texas.
TLC EXES IN SPORTS
Nelson Webernick, TLC football and basketball star for the
past two seasons is now playing first-string tackle for Southwestern
University at Georgetown. Pauli Gips, ’39-’40. is quarterbacking
and doing all the passing for the same team. Tommie Crews, ’40,
is a candidate for a backfield post at Texas College of Mines. Eddie
Zunker, 41, is slated to take over the third base position on the
University of Texas baseball team next spring.
Volleyball
Captains Chosen
In a meeting of the GAA on
Wednesday, Oct. 7, captains were
chosen for the four intramural
volleyball teams. They are Lois
Moden, Karol Jo Robinson, Vivian
Simmons, and Dorothy Kruger.
Immediately after election the
captains chosen their teams. Win-
ners will be determined by a
round-robin which began on Fri-
day night with two matches be-
tween the Robinson and Moden
teams and between the Simmons
and Kruger teams.
Final tally for the first match
showed Robinson’s team winners
with the score 16-14 and 16-14.
Kruger’s team took the first game
in the second match with a 15-13 j
score, but in the two following
games Simmons won with a score
of 15-3 and 15-9.
High scorers in the first match
were Robinson for the winners
and Loefler for the losers. In
the second match Simmons and
Nelson took high point honors.
Captain Simmons was the high
scorer of all matches with a total
of 12 points.

Sophs Defeat
Fish 21 to 2
The sophomores disposed of
their understudies, the freshmen,
in the annual softball game on
Sept. 25. The score board read
21-2 at the close of the battle.
Taking a commanding lead in
the first inning the sophomores
were never headed. Koepp,
Ashorn, and the Luckenbach boys
supplied the batting punch for
the winners.
Hoffman and Ottmars supplied
the freshmen with their only base
hits.
Billy Koepp pitched brilliantly
for the sophomores while 3aur
hurled for the fish.
