SOUTH TEXAS CATHOLIC * MARCH 5, 2010
ANNUAL REPORT 2009
Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,
When I came to the Diocese of Corpus
Christi as your bishop 10 years ago, 1 looked
to the recommendations of those who came
before me so that I could determine the
greatest needs and goals for this part of the
Lord’s vineyard. The main themes that were
prominent in the 1988 Synod and the 1998
Self-Study, were Evangelization, Catechesis,
Family Life, Vocations, Worship, Youth and
Stewardship.
These seven goals have been our focus for
the past decade and they help us to fulfill our
primary task, which is to carry on the mission
of the Lord Jesus. Through the generosity of
your time, talent and treasure, these goals
have been nurtured and have flourished.
Programs to help our families and educate our young people continue as well
as evangelization efforts and outreach to those in need. The Mother Teresa
Shelter has become a center of refuge and hope for our homeless brothers and
sisters. The new shrine ofNuestra Sehora de San Juan de los Lagos will be a
spiritual haven for the faithful. This year marks the first graduating class of
seniors at John Paul II High School.
In keeping with these wonderful events and milestones, I now wish to
share with you a summary of the ministries, programs and services provided
throughout the diocese during fiscal year 2009. Together with the Diocesan
Finance Council and the Finance Office staff we thank you for your generosity
and prayers during a very turbulent time for our country’s economy. The audited
financial statements in their entirety can be found on the Diocesan Web page at
www.diocesecc. org.
We have witnessed much growth in our diocese these past 10 years and the
fruits of our labors will continue into the next chapter of the Diocese of Corpus
Christi.
May God continue to bless you and your families and bring you closer to Him
this Lent and Easter,
With eternal hope in the Lord, I remain,
Bishop Edmond Carmody
