the Diocese of Corpus Christi and been appointed
Parochial Vicar of Holy Family Parish in Corpus
Christi, effective Nov. 20.
Father Rodolfo Vasquez has been relieved of his
appointment as Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of Perpetual
Help Parish. He has been appointed Parochical Vicar of
Our Lady of Guadalupe in Corpus Christi, along with his
assignment to John Paul II High School, effective Nov.

Federation of Guadalupanas marks
one year; plans made for festivities
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a holy
day of obligation, is Dec. 8.
The office of Evangelization invites every'one to
celebrate the 475th Anniversary of the Apparition of
Our Lady of Guadalupe on Sun., Dec. 10 and on Tues.,
Dec. 12.
On Dec. 10, the celebration begins at 5:15 p.m. with a
procession from Sacred Heart Parish (1217 Lipan St.) to
Corpus Christi Cathedral. Folfeiorico dancers, and
Matachines will perform. Bishop Carmody will celebrate
Mass at 6 p.m., followed immediately by a dinner
reception in St. Joseph’s Hall.
On Dec. 12, the Feast Day of Our Lady of Our Lady
of Guadalupe, Folklorico dancers and Matac/iines will
perform at 6 p.m. at the Corpus Christi Cathedral.
Bishop Carmody will celebrate Mass at 6:30 p.m. A
reception will follow in St. Joseph Hall.
Please bring a rose to present to an image of Our Lady
of Guadalupe. Our Lady of Guadalupe articles will also

In conjunction with the events marking the anniver-
sary of the apparition, the diocesan Federation of Our
Lady of Guadalupe Societies (Guadalupanas) continues
to promote the devotion of Our Lady of Guadalupe and
take on special projects assigned by the bishop and
parishes in the one year since their federation.
“It is a special day this year as the 475th anniversary',”
Guadalupana president, Myrna Rodriguez, said.
“When [the apparition] took place, thousands of
people converted to Catholicism. She represents our
faith.”
Rodriguez and her husband, Ross, members of St. Peter
Prince of the Apostles Parish, have an obvious personal
devotion to Our Lady, and they want others to know
about the role of the Guadalupanas in the diocese.
“We evangelize,” she said. “We want to get rid of the

Our Lady of Corpus Christi announces an Evening with Father Corapi
Benefit dinner to raise funds for OLCC school
Father John Corapi will be in Corpus Christi Dec. 8 to
promote Our Lady of Corpus Christi school at a benefit
dinner at the American Bank Center. A noted Catholic
evangelist, Father Corapi is a member of the Society of
Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity.
Also attending will be Bishop Edmond Carmody, who
will preside at a 5 p.m. Mass, which will open the
evening. Father Corapi will be among the priests
concelebrating.
A cocktail hour will follow at 6:30 p.m., followed by
dinner at 7 p.m. and Father Corapi’s presentation at 8
p.m.
Also representing Our Lady of Corpus Christi will be
Father Vincent Albano, a SOLT priest and Chairman of
the OLCC Board of Directors; Dr. David Marzak, chancel-
lor of OLCC, and Father Ralph Jones, a SOLT priest and
OLCC provost.
“Father Corapi in many ways is like St. Ignatius of
Loyola, the Spanish soldier who became a priest,” said
Dr. Marzak. “Loyola used his military training to unite
the Jesuits into a closely knit order of priests to promote
Tridentine reforms of the Council of Trent during the
Catholic Counter Reformation.” Marzak noted that
