KLUX, 89.5 FM
first local station
to go digital
Crystal clear quality and new
multicasting allows for access
to new channels
During live, on-the-air, ceremonies and in the
company of Corpus Christi Mayor Henry Garrett,
KLUX board members, station supporters and other
dignitaries, the course of Coastal Bend Radio
Broadcasting took an historic turn on November 20
as Bishop Edmond Carinody blessed new facilities
and station officials announced the launch of the
area’s first Digital Radio broadcast signal and the
inauguration of a new channel of programming.
KLUX 89.5 is the first station in this market sewed
by 43 signals, to implement the new HD Digital
Radio technology that is already in use by more then
1000 stations across the nation including 81 stations
in Texas.
Diocesan director of communications, Marty
Wind, said the “next generation" KLUX HD Digital
technology drastically improves the experience and
opportunities for listeners who have an HD compat-
ible receiver, including a pure digital path from the
studio source to the receiver resulting in crystal clear
CD quality reception.
“More importantly, the new technology provides
for multicasting, allowing listeners to access new
channels,” Wind said. The Nov. 20 event at KLUX
also marked the launch of the first multicast channel
in the area dubbed KLUX HD-2. The channel will be
dedicated to Catholic programming including
carriage of live liturgical events from the Cathedral
Church, press conferences, and the Relevant Radio
Network out of Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Relevant
Radio Network is endorsed by the U. S. Conference
of Catholic Bishops.
A non-commercial station licensed to Diocesan
Telecommunications Corporation, KLUX has
consistently ranked in the top market stations with
adults 35+ drawing thousands of listeners with its
easy listening music format and then delivering
