Falfurrias parish says goodbye to fallen soldier

The community of Sacred
Heart Parish in Falfurrias laid
to rest U. S. Army Sgt.
Johnny Joe Peralez,Jr., Jan.
IT. He was 25.
Peralez served as a Combat
Medic with the 3rd Battalion,
16th Field Artillery, 2nd
Brigade Combat Team, 4lh
Infantry Division, Fort Hood.
He was killed Jan. 5, in An
Naf, Iraq.
Peralez was born on
February 1, 1980 in Lockney,
Texas and was raised in
Falfurrias.
He was a 1998 graduate of Falfurrias
High School where he participated in
band, tennis and Student Council.
Peralez enlisted in the Army in 1999
and his tours of duty included Frank-
furt, Germany; Kosovo, Afghanistan; and
14 months in Iraq, after
which he again returned to
Killeen and was stationed
there until his subsequent
return to Iraq on Nov. 29,
2005.
When living in South
Texas, he had attended
Sacred Heart Parish.
Father Matthew Stephan,
pastor of Sacred Heart,
presided at the Jan. 17
funeral Mass. Father John
Ouellette, pastor of St.
Theresa Parish in Premont,
gave the homily.
Peralez is survived by his mother,
Virginia Garcia (Homer Mora) of
Falfurrias, Texas. His father, Johnny J.
Peralez, Sr. (Andrea) of Lockney. His

Peralez, Jr.,
maternal grandmother
who helped raise him,
Carmen Arellano (Jesus
“Beto” Garza) of
Kingsville. His sister, Nina
Kristine Peralez, of Dallas.
His brothers, Romeo Villa
of Killeen and Jessie Rene
Peralez of Lockney. He is
also survived by his
girlfriend, Luisa Reyes of
Dallas, Texas. His maternal
grandfather, Pedro
Vasquez (Flora) of
Premont, Texas. His
paternal grandparents, Joe
and Tomasa Peralez of
Lockney.
He is also survived by
his maternal aunt, Belinda
Vasquez of Kerrville and maternal uncles,
Ramiro Vasquez (Silvia) of Tucson,

The body of Johnny Peralez, Jr. is carried into Sacred
Heart Church in Falfurrias on Jan. 17. He was killed in
Iraq on Jan. 5.

third anniversary of their
Perpetual Adoration
Chapel with a special
series on perpetual
adoration and the blessing
of a new plaza Feb. 3 and
4. — The series is titled:
The Presentation of Jesus in
the Temple Today, Eucha-
ristic Source, Center and
Summit of Our Lives.
The chapel is located
on the OLCC campus at
1200 Lantna Rd. in
Corpus Christi.
