Hheltiy, May 4. Ed. Empire. A quart-
erly meeting will lie held here next Satur-
day. The farmers are very busy. There
is a fine crop of young crab grass anon,
the corn and cotton aud with a wet spd
it would be fearful. We have a small
acreage of wheat, fair acreage of corn,
and a large acreage of cotton. Poor gar-
dens. ami but tittle frtilt. IVc are pleased
with some articles In the Empire of last
week We call attention to them because
it will do your readers no harm to read
them again. The view of the Burnsville
Alliance to my mind Is prudent, and wise.
We also dote on Granger's piece, under
the head ot "A card." it corresponds
with W. II. Whitacro's speech at this
place lust Saturday. Also the letter of
this neighborhood signed by "A farmer"
is spoken of as being wortli its loom, but
can't place tlic author, but that don't mat-
ter. Tlic old-’omun Hays that it was not
her Hint captured tho chicken and bread,
ul the harliccue, for site was uot there.
We think the people are debtors. Many
tininks to the Odd Fellows for their
liberal feast, and no doubt there would
be thousands of hands raised in token of
llmuksiflhc word waa given, because
uiuny would raise liolli bands, and per-
haps a fool or two. May (icacc and
harmony prevail. Jim.
