the sill to the hdiizontal position, the sill in
its swing movement also traveling with the
door 5.
While in the drawings I have shown a
5 double door closing opening 3 it is manifest
that but a single door 5 may be used and
the sill 5 being carried by that door and the
arms 10 traveling in the slotted plates 13,
the sill will rest in horizontal position across
io the top of door vand connect floor 1
with the floor 9 of the elevator. When in
this instance the door 5 is drawn upward
the sill 8 will be in an upright position and
extend some (listance above the top edge of
15 the door. Besides forming a means where-
by trucks or Iieavy packages nmay be easily
loaded ol 0 or u 10oaled fromh the elevator
V through openii'g 3, the sill 8 also serves
when in horizontal position to protect the
20 door 1 from jar or shock since it covers or
shields the dooi during the passage of loads
to or from the elevator.
Having thus described the nature and ob-
jecto (Ii my invention, what I claim as new
'- and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,--
1. In a device of the character described.
a door closing the entrance to the elevator, a
sill pivotally connected to the upper edgeof said door and means controlled by the
operation of said door whereby when the 3)
door is open the sill rests in operative posi-
tion upon the floor of the elevator.
2. In a device of the character described,
an elevator, a door closing the entrance to
the elevator, a means for raising or lower- 35
ing the door and a. sill pivotally connected
with the upper edge of said door conbinedi
with means controlled by the movement of
said door whereby when the door is lowered
the sil.l projects horizontally across the up- 10
per edge of said door to rest upon the floor
of the elevator and the floor of said emi-
trance.
8. In a device of the character described,
an elevator, an opening leading thereto, 45
plates provided with ca1111 slots arranged at
either side of said opemiing, a door, a means
for raising or lowerin the door across said
opening, a sill, pivotally suipported on the
upper edge of said (.oon, and aramrs Carried '5C
by said sill, said arias arranged with their
free end in operative engagemeu; with the
cam slots of said plates.
In. testiimomuy whereof I have signed my
na muic to thiis s)ecificati on.
