efforts toward that end.
The jack of diamonds was
ed at trick three and when
West covered with the queen,
he seven was played from
iummy. A trick was returned,
aken by North’s ten and the
ice of diamonds was cashed
m which South discarded a
leart.
A heart was led to the ace
and another heart back to the
king. A third round of the suit
was ruffed with the ace of
spades as both opponents
followed, thereby establishing
dummy’s nine. A space to the
queen drew the remaining
trump and South discarded club
on North’s long heart.
The losses on the deal
consisted of two diamond tricks
and one club. By transferring
his heart loser to the diamond
suit, declarer prevented East
from obtaining the lead to make
the fatal club shift.

COLLEGE STATION, Tex.
(AP) — Bearded, shaggy-hared
and sockless civilian students at
Texas A&M University have
been given the word: spruce up
or ship out.
The Academic Council has ap-
proved a request by the Civilian
Student Council urging enforce-
ment of university regulations
regarding appropriate dress for
civilian students, it was an-
nounced here.
Civilian students in the future
must be clean shaven with a
proper haircut or risk being
oooted out of class. Socks must
oe worn with shoes on campus.
Tattered trousers may not be
worn on campus. Shower shoes
are taboo. That also goes for
‘T” shirts and practice jerseys,
unless the student is participat-
ing in an athletic activity.
The Academic Council urged
the A&M faculty and staff to
dismiss from class any student
who does not comply with cloth-
ing regulations. The offending
i student will be charged with an
i unexcused absence from class.

AUSTIN - A bill which
authorizes acquisition,
restoration, and maintenance of
historic forts and missions, most
of them in West Texas, was
approved Tuesday by the House
parks and wildlife committee
without opposition.
Rep. Richard Slack of Pecos
explained the bill for Rep. Gene
Hendryx, chairman of the
committee, who had to appear
before another committee on
another parks bill.
Rep. J. E. Ward of Glen Rose
offered an amendment which
was accepted by Hendryx. It
allowed the historic sites
program to acquire and operate
sites of significant geologic sites
which relate to prehistoric
animal or plant life. He is
interested in making a park of
the famous Glen Rose dinosaur
tracks on the banks of the
Brazos River.
Slack told of serving on the
committee with Hendryx on a
study on preservation of historic
structures. He said everyone
who made the tour of the
missions and forts “felt we
should acquire these historic
sites to preserve them.”
Slack said that restoration
would increase tourism.
The size of the program
depends on how much money
is provided for that purpose by
the general appropriations bill
after the Hendryx-Slack
authorization bill is passed. Sen.
Dorsey B. Hardeman said
Tuesday morning that Hendryx
has already committeed him to
spend one million dollars for
the program. Hardeman is on
the Senate side of the
appropriations committee. The
Parks and Wildlife Commission
would administer the new law.

Red Hair Surplus
BERLIN (AP) — There may
be plenty of blond-haired people
in Germany, but there also are
enough redheads in East Ger-
many to produce hygrometers.
The official East German news
agency reported that a factory
that makes the instruments for
measuring air moisture adver-
tised for red hair and received
so many packages it can make
hygrometers for five years. Red
hair is used because it is more
sensitive to moisture.
