ORDINANCE NO. 9.
AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE HITCHING OF HORSES OR
OTHER ANIMALS TO CERTAIN TREES OR TO ANY LAMP-POST OR
FIRE PLUG IN ANY STREET, PARK OR PUBLIC HIGHWAY IN THE
CITY OF ABILENE; FIXING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION
THEREOF AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Abilene.
Section 1.
It shall be unlawful for any person to hitch any horse or other animal
to any street lamp post, fire plug or ornamental tree in any street, park or
public highway in the City of Abilene.
Section 2.
The term ornamental tree, is defined as being any tree except the mes-
quite.
Section 3.
It shall be unlawful for any person to hitch any horse or other animal
to any mesquite tree in any street, park or public highway in this City,
attached to which said tree is a sign or placard, not less than six by ten
inches in demension, upon which said sign is printed or written the words,
“Do not hitch here, official,” provided, that no such sign shall be placed
upon any such tree except by the owner, occupant or person controlling the
premises, immediately abutting that part of the street or highway, upon
which such tree or trees is located.
Section 4.
It shall be unlawful for any person to remove or deface any placard or
sign attached to any tree under the provisions of this ordinance.
Section 5.
Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall, upon
conviction thereof in the Corporation Court of this City, be fined in any
sum not exceeding Fifty Dollars.
Section 6.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby re-
pealed.
Section 7.
That this ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after it#
passage.
