A contract has been let for the
erection of a five-story modern hotel
in Falfurrias and work will begin
within a few weeks. The contract
was awarded H. A. Moore, formerly
of Clinton, Ind. The building will he
located on the corner of Rice and
St. Mary’s streets, having lit) feet
frontage on Rice and 14<> feet on St.
Mary’s. The hotel will be modern in
every respect and will be quite an
asset to the town.
The foundation was laid this week
for the new Masonic Hall which is
being built on Rice street about five
blocks west of St. Mary’s. Galloway
Bros., local contractors, have charge
of the building under construction.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Weber have been
the guests of Mrs. Weber’s parents,
Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Proctor, for the
past few days.
Mrs. M. S. Miley of Houston arrived
Sunday for a visit to the E. P. John-
son household.
Mrs. Bryan Johnson Is visiting Mr.
and Mrs. E. P. Johnson for a few
days en route to her home in Laredo.
Mrs. George I'orensou and little
daughter, Lorena, left for Rockport
Sunday, where they will spend sever-
al days with relatives.
Mrs. Ray Hearne of Alice is visit-
ing Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Burdette
and family.
Mrs. J. T. Nolan and baby, of
Uvalde are visiting her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Ty Sullivan.
Mr. and Mrs. S. 1). Sanders left
Monday for Kerrville.
Mrs. L. A. Dickey and niece. Miri-
am McDonald, have gone to -San An-
tonio and Kerrville for a visit with
relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Barnes and fain 'tend,
ily are leaving the early part of the
week for an extended visit to Ohio
and Michigan.
Final plans are being completed
for the big Rodeo and barbecue which
will be the features of the Fourth of
July celebration in Falfurrias. This
is one of the biggest undertakings In
this part of the state and the public
is cordially invited.
The Southern Pacific Band will fur-
nnish music throughout the day.
A survey has been completed of
the city for the installation of a mod-
ern sewerage system. The sur-
vey was made under J. H. Gch-
bauer, chief engineer of the S. W.
Sewer Company, and work will com
mence in the near future.
Mesdames E. D. McIntyre, C. F.
Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Smith and two
small sons, of Waco, visited in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Womack
this week. Mrs. Smith, who is Mr.
Womack's niece, will be remembered
best as Miss Ocie Womack. Mr.
Smith returned to Alice, where he has
been visiting with relatives, hut came
back to Uiviqra Saturday night.
Miss Lucille McDaniel of Bloom-
ington, who is attending the college
in Kingsville, spent the week end
with Miss Merle Davis.
Mr. J. It. Paulk of Bloomington
spent Sunday in the Holloway home.
A number of young people were en-
tertained in the home of Mr. and Mrs.
John J. May Monday night. The early
part of the evening was spent In play-
ing games. Iced watermelon was
served for refreshment. Those pres-
ent were Manful Whitcomb, Myrtle,
Mildred and Louis Rudd, Grace and
Emert Crocker. Helen and Edna
Richey, Ora and Jewel Ferguson, Or-
vnl Nanny, Spurgeon Lanier, Austin
and Ethel Gates, Barbara, Mary and
Lawrence May.
Dr. and Mrs. Wiles arrived home
Thursday night from their visit with
Mrs. Wile’s parents in Bowie, Texas.

is in much the best condition of any
place they passed through while
away.
Miss Maudie Ray, of Corpus Chris-
ti is home with her parents for a short
time while recuperating from a recent
illness.
Master Thomas Ray Cornelius of
Alice, Texas, is visiting in the home
of his grandparents. Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Gardner, this week.
Miss Bertie Gates of Grit, Texas,
accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Gates of Mason, arrived about the
middle of the week to visit with their
brother and family, Mr. J. A. Gates.
Joe Gates returned the next day, tak-
ing Miss Ethel Gates to Mason for a
visit,
Messrs. A. A. and Roy Kimmell of
Harlingen and Gordon Kimmell, re-
cently of A. K M. College, spent Sun-
day in the home of Mrs. E. A. Cole.
Mrs. Kimmell and children will ac
company Mr. Kimmell home, ns will
also Mrs. Cole and Mrs. Lotella
Sears. Mrs. Sears will spend several
weeks in the Valley. Mrs. Cole will
remain about two months with her
sons there; then she expects to go
to St. Louis for a visit.
Mr. I. L. I'nterbrink of Beaumont
is visiting relatives here.
Rev. Joiner of Kingsville filled his
regular appointment both Sunday
morning and evening. Two services
will be lu'ld, each first and third Sun-

all of Laurel, Miss., are guests this
week of Mr. Ford’s brother, C. N.

The annual revival meeting began
at the Ricardo church lust Saturday
night, with Rev. King of Goliad as-
sisting the pastor, Rev. Youngblood
of Sundia.
The Ricardo Home Economics Club
was hostess to the annual rally of
county clubs on last Friday, when
there were lectures by Mrs. Dora
Barnes and Miss Bennie Campbell of
A. M. and by Miss Brown of A. &
I. A large crowd was present and
the day was well spent.
Mrs. W. 1. Trant entertained the
following guests over Sunday: Miss
Bessie Walker, Miss Lillian Trant of
Kingsville and Mr. Dee Swilling of
Agua Dulce.
L. E. Trant, president of the Coun-
ty Farm Bureau, announces a county
wide meeting of the Bureau at the
Ricardo auditorium on next Thurs-
day night, June 20. The revival meet-
ing this week at the church necessi-
tates a late meeting for the bureau,
hut the time for the church meeting
has been set forward half an hour and
most of the singing will be dispensed
with, making it possible to hold the
Farm Bureau meeting after the
church services. Mr. Hartman, a
state official of the bureau, will be
present to speak and cake and ice
cream will be served afterwards.

odist Church has been well attended
the past week and will continue for
another week. An all-day district
meet w ill be held at the Methodist
church Thursday of this week.
Brother Foy E. Wallace of Sun Be-
nito is conducting a meeting at the
Christian church.
Dr. Earle T l itt of San Antonio was
a visitor in Bishop one evening last
week. Dr. l ritt was a former resi-
dent ot Bishop. In fact, he spent his
childhood days here.

outing at Junction with her friends,

and Albert Gartner spent several days
in San Antonio last week.
C. T. Hewitt returned last week,
after several weeks stay at his home
in Illinois, where he had been called,
due to the illness of his father.
At a meeting of the Boy Scouts
Sunday afternoon it was decided by
the executive committee and Scout
Masters to take advantage of the last
half of the district scout encampment
which is held at La Garda Crossing
on the Nueces River. *

spent Thursday with her mother, Mrs.

Mrs. Joe Langen spent a couple of

have improved the past week. Fleas
are beginning to leave the cotton.
Feed is good and plenty of work to
do.

ting her trip short on account of thp

PLATO MAYONNAISE DRESSING
(Heavy)
2 egg yolks
3 tbs. vinegar
(4 tsp. sugar
Paprika to taste
2-3 cup Plato Salad Oil
1-4 tsp. mustard
1 tsp. salt
2 tbs. boiling water
Mix vinegar and other seasonings
together and beat it into the egg yolks
thoroughly with rotary beater. Add
oil, teaspoon at a time until half cup
of oil is added, then add by table-
spoons. When half of oil is added
rest for 2 minutes. Add oil by 2 ta-
blespoons until all is added.
If for any reason mayonnaise sep-
aiates, beat the separated mixture
slowly with another fresh egg or into
old mayonnaise. If mayonnaise is too
heavy add the boiling water immedi-
ately after adding oil. It is very im-
portant to have eggs and oil the same
temperature, not necessarily chilled,
room temperature is satisfactory. For
moulding, soften 1 tablespoon of gel-
atine in 4 tablespoons of water, dis-
solve over hot water and add to dress-
ing.

2 squares melted chocolate (2 ozs.)

1 cup broken pecans
Mix sugar and egg, chocolate, flour
and pecans, l’lace on buttered pans
In small teaspoonful. Bake in slow
oven 300 degrees F. for 30 minutes.
Flavor with vanilla. Watch carefully,
