Mrs. Morg Parnell Dead.
At 11 o’clock Wednesday night
Mrs. Morg Parnell, who han boon
very feeble for several weeks,
breathed her last. All of her
children except Mrs. Ruth Wood-
all of Oklahoma were present.
Mrs. Woodall had returned to her
home only a few days before,
when her mother was feeling
better, but a hemorrhage Wed
nesday night hastened the end.
Mrs. Parnell was 68 years old
and much of her life had been
spent here, she having seen Ste
phenville grow from a few
scattered houses to its present
proportions. She was a devoted
Christian woman, and one of her
highest joys in life was to be in
her place in the meeting house
when able.
The funeral at West End Thurs-
day afternoon at 4:30 was con-
ducted by Rev. H. H. Street

SHERIFF COX MAKES
TIMEFY 0ISCI1VERY
And Thwarts an Attempt to
Saw Out of Jail.
What might have culminated
in a jail delivery was averted by a
timely discovery made by Sheriff
Cox last Friday morning.
The steel ceiling in the cell
which Bob May occupies bore
evidence of having been sawed
about half through at one place,
when the matter was found out
by the sheriff.
A steel spring taken from the
sole of a shoe was the implement
that had been used. It had been
securely fastened to the end of
a stick, thus enabling the party
handling it to reach the ceiling,
and by putting scribe strength to
it and shoving it back and forth
along the same line the sawing
was accomplished without making
scarcely and noise. ____
The cells are so arranged that
only one prisoner could escape at
night, even if an exit had been
secured, but in the day time the
inmates may go from one cell to
another. The way the jail is
constructed, no bars would in-
tervene if a prisoner could get
through the ceiling over the May
cell, but reaching the ground
from the third story top would
be rather risky, and in daylight
almost impossible to avoid de-
tection.
